Tailgate theft.

Our friend from the next street over, had his tailgate stolen last week.
I know this kind of theft has been going on for decades but I never really paid much attention to it.
We are now very conscious of locking it ever night; I wish ours would automatically lock with the key fob but it doesn't

For about $20 I bought a lock that goes around the hinged pin which makes it more difficult to remove the tailgate. For about $1.00 you can buy a hose clamp that does the same thing. Might just slow them down enough to discourage a thief.

They do make lock kits that have an door lock solenoid that act just like your door locks. I put one on mine after a buddy had his gate lifted in wal mart lot. It was a f250 similar to mine with backup camera.....i believe it was several thousand to replace!!!

the new ones come with auto locks from the factory?? well that sucks, i have a 2012 F250 and that wasnt even offered as an option! Sure i have the standard lock like everyone else, but the OP and I were referring to "auto lock with key fob"....I also have a locking "bakflip" cover on mine but im not sure that would deter a tailgate theft either.

If they're gonna rip-off your tailgate - it's a pretty safe bet that the "Bakflip" tonneau will be gone too !!

LOL.....actually not funny as my cousin just had his f250 stolen from a parking garage in houston! scared me enough to install jimmy jammers on my doors and remove all the external locking cylinders on the doors...well...the ONE on the drivers door...

here is what i used....works great..lock the doors, lock the tailgate. I do recall the wiring to be a pain, as the instructions were not correct when i got mine...supposed to be fixed now...fairly easy to install, although i had a past life as a custom car stereo installer

No, the Fords do not come from the factory with the tailgate lock tied into the door locks. It sure would make sense to do that though. There is an aftermarket solution available though. I would have to find it.
