Thanksgiving trip from HELL.

Went to PA on Tuesday. Could not get out of the house till 12:30 late start. On 81 was delayed at 3 times because of a wreck. The trailer did not feel right after we were 1/2 way there could not figure what was wrong. Got to the camp ground and the person in the next trailer parked his car in our spot and was not there.
Had to drive around and find a spot that was not reserved that I could fit in. As it is now late and after dark. Once I found a spot Mt truck would not unhook from the trailer come to find out the capture plate is broken, bent and spun around. Finley get unhooked but not level and can't hook back up to fix.

The next morning I find out that I need 43ft of wast line and only have 35ft. Look at the broken capture plate and find out that one side was only tacked not welded. Try to find a welder on Thangsgiving holiday.

The time with Family and Friends was great.
Had a late start on Saturday to go home had to put on the capture plate that was rewelded but still bent.

One hour from home stopped at a truck stop to get fuel I don't like to use truck pumps because of the higher volume of fuel that they pump. And the shut off fails and I am covered in #2 from the chest down. Had to have someone else move the rig to the side of the lot so I can strip down (note to all this is another reason to keep your water tank full) and use Dawn Dish Soap to take a shower.

And after all this try backing in a narrow driveway in the dark. Did not like that Dogwood anyway.

There is one pix of me in the lot that will never see the light of day.

Looks like you made the best out of a bad situation. Hopefully the long trip next May won't cause you so much grief.

My husband asked me what my best memories are from the years we had out pop-up. Most of the memories were of things that went wrong. I had to really think about the good trips. You are too close to the event, but I find that the best stories are based on things that went wrong. No one remembers the usual, mundane events. It is the unusual situations that we retell over and over. After a while, we can even laugh at ourselves and the events. After all, Funniest Home Videos are only funny because they have captured an event that didn't go as planned! I'm sorry you had such frustrations, but this will be a Thanksgiving you will never forget!

it sounds like Murphy's law was working overtime on you! I agree with Camping Gator that these are the times you can hopefully look back and laugh about. I guess it's part of the adventure. Just not the best part.

Glad that you & your family made it home safe. Sorry to hear about the other stuff. In time this will make for a good story while sitting around the campfire.

I call these things the Banana Pudding Curse.

I have a group of camping friends that we get together several times a year to camp. I started picking with some of the wives several years ago that if I didn't receive Banana Pudding on each trip, that they would be cursed with bad camping luck.

So, sometimes I would get as many as 3 of them to make banana pudding, and we would laugh about it. Sure enough, there were a couple of times, Moi didn't receive his banana pudding, and bad things did happen. Tire Blowouts, bad pedestals, one time a trailer rolled away due to forgetting to chock it before unhooking, ants, truck engine blew a head gasket, electric jacks not working, etc.

Now to be honest, bad things sometimes still happen even with the banana pudding appeasement.... but at least you have banana pudding to help ease the pain.

I would need a 55 gal of pudding after this trip. And the pix of me striped down would shut down the site and get the big foot hunters excited.
