I see by the info listed in some member signatures that we have some car buffs like myself on the forum. Would anyone like to share some info and pictures of that other expensive hobby?

Next project is a 58 Chevy Apache Truck that I just pulled from a field.

Sure, It started life as a 1939 Ford Tudor Sedan.

Here is a short list of some of the changes:

Fatman Frame
Corvette LT1 and trans
Ford 9" posi rear
Air Ride (front and rear)
Vintage Air heat and A/C
American Racing (Torque Thrust) 20" in rear and 18" in front

Body Changes:
Chopped
Entire body (except doors, hood, and trunk lid) is welded together so there are no seams
40 Ford Rear window
Widened front fenders
B pilars tilted forward
Custom built running boards

Custom paint and hand painted graphics firewall and down side of car

As you can imagine, there are more changes, but those are the highlights. Basically, the entire car is custom.

It's a 72 Dart Demon original 340 - 4spd car with 2 owners...my brother, than me.
Best time is 10.55 @ 124mph. Doesn't get out too often since we've got the travel trailer!

I have a 1970 MG Midget that I am doing a ground up restoration on. I know this is not the typical rod but it sure will be sweet when I am finished. I had one when i was younger back in the early eighties. I am also doing a ground up restoration on a 1964 Chev Impala 2 door that belongs to the commanding General of the Marine base here where I live. Put on quarters and wheel wells and rockers. He (the General) did the engine work himself. I am an instructor at Albany Technical College in Albany Georgia and have been teaching for twenty years. I have been in the body business for 31 years. The rods I have seen on this site are awesome. Paint work and lines look great. I also am open to questions about body work if you out there have any.

My other expensive hobby is of course the Jeep which some have said stands for "Just Empty Every Pocket"

I love metal fabrication and tinkering so from stock my Jeep has received the following modifications at quite a bit of expense over the last 11 years since I bought it:

Front and rear air locking differentials, 4:10 gearing, Ford 8.8 rear axle from an Explorer to replace the weak Dana 35 and give me disk breaks, custom fabbed roll cage, tube doors, rear swing arm bumper, gas tank skidplate and flat fender style tube fenders. I have also custom engineered and installed an on-board air compressor system. 5.5" Long arm suspension system with triangulated rear control arms. CB and ham radio, GPS and a 15" Dell laptop mounted overhead from the center roll cage console for keeping me on track when "lost" in the woods. Front bull bar bumper with Warn 9000i winch loaded with synthetic winch line (read expenseive). And probably more that I can't remember. Next on the list is internal beadlocks for the tires so that I don't have to worry about pealing a tire off the rim when aired down for off-road fun.

Although it is still more or less my daily driver the wife and I use it on the weekends an our trips for as much off-road fun as we can and Moab Utah is our favorite destination. Even if you aren't into 4x4s, Moab is a must see place that is just magical.

Disagree, flying airplanes is. At least with car racing you have a chance for a sponsor, and might get a little money. With an airplane, you are just throwing money in the air, but it sure is fun.
