Question The US flag (flying the US flag in Canada)

I was told by an American who camped in Canada that our flag may not be flown at camp sites. Is this true?

I always thought out of respect, you fly the host nations flag along side the American flag. "
Dignity of the Flag

The National Flag of Canada should be displayed only in a manner befitting this important national symbol; it should not be subjected to indignity or displayed in a position inferior to any other flag or ensign. The National Flag always takes precedence over all other national flags when flown in Canada. The only flags to which precedence is given over the Canadian flag are the personal standards of members of the Royal Family and of Her Majesty's eleven representatives in Canada (ie. The Governor General and 10 Lieutenant Governors)."

The US flag

I can't find wher the answers are to my question. But, the answer as to where I learned about NOT flying the US flag in Canada came from my Alaskan neighbor here in Mesa. This guy told me, while camped in BC, to take the US flag down. I got the correct answer from a Canadian!

Never heard of such. Whomever told you that was sorely mistaken.

With flags of other sovereign nations [4]

The National Flag of Canada, when flown or paraded, takes precedence over all other national flags. When flown with the flags of other sovereign nations, all flags should be flown on separate flagpoles/masts and at the same height, all being of the same size, with the National Flag of Canada occupying the position of honour.

I have seen many Canadians display their flag in the USA, which I welcome. They should be as proud of their country as I am of mine. I will display the Stars & Stripes wherever I go.

I found his blogger's post on the topic:
http://rickpaulettervjournal.blogspo...le-we-are.html

It doesn't speak specifically to flying a US Flag in Canada, but it talk to flying a Canadian flag and another countries (separate poles, equal height, equal size- it seems).

Our CG have both the Canadian and US flag flying at the entrance. We have many US campers come to our CG and they proudly display the Stars and Stripes. I have camped in the US on the July 4th weekend and I would display the US flag out of respect plus I would display the Canadian flag. We are too neighbours and should show respect each others flag.

Doesn't matter to me how the flags are displayed as long as it is not dis-respectful. But I see that there is a protocol! I was thinking of flying the two flags one below the other off my awning, glad I read this thread first! Now I'm thinking one beside the other off the awning the left one being dependent on the country one is in? Thoughts? I don't know of anyone that carries 2 flagpoles with them in their campers.

Not trying to start an issue here and I'm not thinking or implying that you are dis-respectful, but why don't you care about displaying your country's flag properly? There are protocols and established customs for displaying the flag that reflect what your flag stands for and what the men and women fought for under that flag.

Not too difficult to display it properly.
