Lou & Laura - may your present season of life bring you many happy times and the blessings of knowing how much you are loved, by friends, family, one another, and by the Creator who blessed us all with the two of you. God bless you both now and always.

So, back from "Phase One" of the vetting process. News was not all positive, but enough to go to "Phase Two."

Lots of downside to a transplant we were not aware of and with her being so successful with PD, the upside is not as great as we had hoped.

Time will tell, and the outcome of the "Phase Two" tests will either open or shut the door to a transplant. Without a live donor the wait can be 5 years for a "minimal match" even by accepting a "third tier" organ (sex trade or prison death).

The kids have inherited her bad kidneys and her sister is diabetic.

The immune system drugs she will need to take will also have complications with other medical issues she has. The decision at the end of this road could be a real nail biter.

So it has been a while and a lot has transpired; I apologize for being tardy with an update.

"Phase Two" at the University of PA Kidney never happened. While reviewing her initial evaluation, the "round table" decided Laura was not a transplant candidate (no particular reason ever given) and her follow on tests were cancelled. They are very proud of their 98% success rate and they keep it by not accepting borderline patients into their program.

After much soul searching (and visits with her doctors and getting the tests recommended as part of Phase Two) we decided a second opinion was warranted and we went to Lankenau Kidney in Wynnewood PA for it. They partner with Jefferson in Phila and came highly recommended.

Glad we did as her initial evaluation went very well and they "Provisionally" accepted her into the program. Thanksgiving was a special day for us as we had much to be thankful for.

Their "Phase two" was a visit to their surgical team (last Friday) for final blessing. That interview went very well and they only needed a CT scan of the new kidney placement site for blood supply evaluation. That is scheduled for Wednesday and Laura's vascular doctor had already said her arteries are in great shape so hopefully this is the last wicket before she is "listed."

Keep looking out for us,
More next week, Lou

Don't know you folks, but don't have to.
Prayer from NY as well.
Funny when I was a young boy of 18 carrying two bundles of roof shingle on my shoulder about 160 pounds up a ladder, my Dad who owned the business at that time used to yell from the ground to my brother and I " when you got your health you got everything" we used to say what the hell is He talking about? We're 18!!
Now at 67 I understand what he meant !
God Bless, prayers continue.

Wow how devastating that must have been, I am so glad to hear you had the opportunity to get a second opinion and that the outcome could prove to be so much more positive, good luck and whatever prayers I can offer are for both of you.
