I am quietly concerned about the immune-suppressive drugs she will need to take. A retired pilot friend of mine recently passed away after being a 2 year survivor of a heart/total lung replacement. He caught a bad cold/flu, and due to the immune system drugs that could not be stopped, died from the secondary infection.

Time will tell.

Lou, I'm glad to hear you exercised your right to a second opinion and it worked out for you. Oh and lankenau is a good hospital. I've had several nieces and a nephew born there years ago. They had a great reputation when I was working at another trauma center in the area as well. Prayers for you and Laura have been sent up.

Lou, what a blessed feeling you and Laura must have had at Thanksgiving, as did Cindy and I. Continued prayers and best wishes for Laura's continuing recovery.

God bless you, Laura and Lou. Praying, even as you continue along this challenging path, that your journey together will continue to be strengthened by love, filled with joy and gratitude, and that you will enjoy the peace that surpasses all understanding. Hang in there.

Wow, I had no idea Lou. For what it's worth a heart/lung is the most serious transplant procedure, while a kidney transplant is darn near commonplace now.
The immunosuppressants used will not be as strong IIRC.
Sorry to hear about your friend, but am glad he got another couple of years with his loved ones.
God is in charge, and I have a feeling he's intending for Laura to stay down here for a while!
Have you asked your doc about the immunosuppressants? They can vary wildly based upon the reaction to the donor organ(s).
Give your better half a big hug from Korea!
