Thank you for thinking of her

She is in good spirits and we are still waiting for a swap match for transplant.

We are going ahead with selling the camper (I know its a crappy time of year to do that), and will buy a used motorhome with the payload we need to carry her supplies and our gear.

We had hoped it would be quick, since we got a "hit" almost immediately (Mid July); but it was not to be. The kidney would have been "high risk" for Laura and the surgeon rejected it for her. (Less than 20% success predicted and we would have wasted our donor).

Once the camper is sold, if the buyer does not want the truck, we will sell that as well. I have some "I want that truck" offers, but until the cash comes it could just be dreamers.

We still have a great deal of hope a swap can be arranged soon.

Thanks for the update. Give Laura a hug from Diane and me. We are still praying for a successful donor.

Best wishes for a quick match and prayers from central NY to both of you. DW had a traumatic injury to her kidneys a year and a half ago so we know a little of what you are going through. Ruth and Lar

Friday, Laura underwent an Arthroscopic procedure to free her dialysis catheter from tissue that was wrapped around it preventing her from draining properly (and causing pain) during her dialysis. The surgery appeared successful as the final photo showed the catheter in the clear and the tissue stitched up and away from it.

Our expectation (except for some post op pain) was to have easy drains and to have the Peritoneal Dialysis work as advertised when we restarted it on Saturday and were looking forward to being able to sleep through the night.

So far it seems not to be. Every night so far has resulted in worse conditions than before the surgery. We discussed this with the Surgeon yesterday and he said that it may improve over time, but he was not hopeful that she can continue with PD as her dialysis choice until we find a suitable kidney donor if it does not. This leaves only Hemodialysis (home or Clinic) as her choices. Both of these are going to severely limit travel for the foreseeable future.

With this hanging over our heads, I canít see any way around traveling for a while. As much as we were looking forward to buying a used Berkshire, we need to wait until her condition is more defined or she gets a viable kidney.

We meet with our Nephrologist on Friday and if things donít improve between now and then; we will start the process of switching over to a different way of treating her in the coming weeks.

Once I find out what is involved in Home Hemodialysis (our first choice), like machine size and supply needs, I will have a better idea if we can actually travel via RV next year. As the situation develops, I will keep you all up to date; and will let you know if things improve in the next few weeks.

Keep her in your prayers,
Lou

Praying the catheter issue improves and a suitable donor is found.
