At 10:40 EDT tonight I got home from the hospital and need to be back at 6:30 tomorrow.
She had surgery tonight to have her PD catheter replaced and a chunk of her Omentum removed that had been blocking it. The surgery last Friday was supposed to cure the intermittent clogging by tacking up the offending piece of Omentum but another just slid into its place and jammed up the works good.
The planned 30 minute "peek and flush" turned into a close to 3 hour ordeal where the Omentum that could even remotely get in the way and the old plugged catheter were removed.
Our girl is in a bit of pain and is in a horrible mood.
(Half German, half Polish) go figure.
I really feel sorry for the nurses and doctors who have felt her ire.
(Though some have earned it!)
18 hour "advocate" days are starting to wear on me, but with any luck at all she should be home to recover tomorrow night. PD to start again next Monday (unless she needs it sooner - there is a special PD protocol for PD before the catheter is fully healed).
She is not taking calls from family yet so if you have her number please don't call. I will post when she is feeling up to chatting.
The surgeon is pretty happy with the new catheter placement and feels very confident it will work as advertised (but time will tell). It looks like we ducked the Hemodialysis bullet this time. With luck we will get the call for a new kidney before we need to do a repeat of this last 10 days.
Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes, Laura and I really do appreciate them and we want to let you all know they did the trick.
Lou and Laura
