To diesel or not to diesel?
Wanted to get some opinions I have a 2015 Cherokee 274dbh 31ft travel trailer. I currently pull it with a 2013 f150 fx4 ecoboost and I'm getting terrible mpg while towing. I have been looking to trade to an F250 6.7 diesel for additional power and mpg. This is also my daily driver for a 20 mile round trip commute for work. Thought on f250 diesel?

What do you mean terrible MPG? Is your vehicle under power? The additional cost of a diesel could be more expensive even with greater MPG and lower fuel cost.
How long will it take to recoup the additional cost of a diesel powered vehicle.

I average 14 in town empty. Pulling the camper I average 5 mpg. My only saving grace is the 30 gal fuel tank.

Here is a link for a gas to diesel calculator.
If MPG is the only factor it might be better to stay with the 150, if you are wanting something more than an mpg gain (power, capacity ect) then diesel may be the way to go.
How is mpg when not towing and how much towing do you do?
I have a diesel and no one can convince me otherwise but that's my opinion and I do not try to blindly push it on anyone, I tow mountains and I like POWER and longevity. Do some research and make an informed decision no matter which way you go.

Ordered mine and have never looked back, knew what I was walking into for the price of fuel and operating costs.
I drive mine everyday back and forth to work but beware diesels need to be worked.
The 6.4 is not as stout as the 6.7 and the 6 speed transmission vs the five makes all the difference for fuel mileage.
The horse power is nice but the shear torque of any of the newer "big" 3 oil burners make it worth it in my book.

ok, I got yah. I get anywhere from 15-20 when not towing depending on how conservative I am with the skinny pedal. Towing I get 14 unless I am pushing passes then I get 12. I tow the rig in my sig, 2850 EVO sitting around 7-8k pounds.
I have a 2012 cummins 6.7 dodge 2500, 6 sp manual trans

We have many camping trips planed this year and so far I'm not happy with the ecoboost when pulling in the mountains. Other than that I love the thing. But this helps me consider all the pros and cons

This is the exact reason I went diesel form the start and never looked back. I love the size, torque, power, capacity and I never worry about anything with it. It will handle my camper fully loaded and my truck bed loaded and still chug away. Hope this helps.

I have drove nothing but diesel Ford 4x4 platforms since 1970.My trucks have always towed almost as many miles as not. If you are towing something heavy,there is nothing to discuss.

You and you alone can answer this question...it gets talked about so much in here and the conversation usually gets as passionate as everybody's love/hate relationship with the different brands of trucks.....you tow in mountains, I tow on land so flat you can see deer 100 miles away, so any opinion I give you is not at all relevant to your situation. Obviously what you have is not working for you and you aren't happy with it, so your own testimony is the best!

I suggest neither,change direction and go F-350 Dually. There's just something about a truck with wide hips.
Plus looking down the road in the future should you later choose to go larger on the next RV your all set and ready to go.

Of course you may want to also take a good hard look at the F-250/350 with the 6.2 under hood. The thing to keep in mind with the 6.2 is that it makes its power in the higher RPM range. But it does deliver impressive performance with a savings of approximately $7500 over the. Most of the diesel.

My only recommend is to stay clear of the stroker 6.0. When I had mine I was quite disappointed with towing mileage. It was stout enough but only got 13 empty and 8 towing. I went Cummins and haven't looked back. Have never been Dodge's biggest fan but it's the only way to get the big 6...

I drive a 2011 F250 CC diesel RWD long bed and while I love the truck please keep in mind that the diesel is a $9,000 option. I hope that I can always drive a diesel pickup?

Diesel, as far as my opinion goes everything should be diesel. Next car will be diesel.
