Wonderful campground in a beautiful location. Go there at least once a year. Going in 3 weeks. Prayers to all campers and families involved and to the park staff that has to deal with the aftermath.

We were just north of Cherrystone near Eastville over the 4th of July weekend, but not camping. WE got to experience Hurricane Arthur's outer bands. Noting like they experienced in Cherrystone this morning, though.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all that were affected.

Thinking of all involved - the greatest fear of a camper besides a fire....

The storm at Cherrystone has been confirmed as an EF-1 tornado.

We just got home from there. There were 6 families, 21 people total in our group and nothing more than some nicks and bruises. Out of 6 campers, 5 were totaled. We were about 150 yards from the couple that were killed, in this area of the campground the amount of trees that broke off and fell was unreal, it looked like a war zone. If you were still sleeping like my wife was when the cell phones went off you didn't have a chance as the storm was pretty much already on us. all I had a chance to do was get my wife up and put her on the floor and lay on top of her. The response from emergency services and all the other campers was phenomenal. If someone tells you they don't believe in God put them in a camper during a tornado.

joeobx,
Glad that you all were not seriously injured.
"If someone tells you they don't believe in God put them in a camper during a tornado."
You are sooo correct. My DW and I were in a terrible storm at Elk Neck State park during the 4th of July several years ago with limbs coming down in the park and the good Lord was watching out for us, no damage to our camper but others had tree limbs going through their roofs. Nothing like you experienced but there is a feeling of hopelessness. Prayed alot and HE saw us through.
