Total Eclipse Aug 21 2017

Don't forget about the goal solar eclipse this coming August 21, 2017.

The path of totality is from Oregon to SC.

It is a must see event since they rarely happen across the US and you usually have to travel great distances to see one!

It's far too early to book a campground for this. What if the weather is overcast?

The line for peak totality passes within 10 miles of my house. Hoping for a clear day!

Hey I tried to book some campgrounds in southern Illinois for that time online and they all show unavailable. Maybe I'll have to look for something in the middle of Nebraska

I'm thinking about boondocking in a Walmart parking lot in SW Kentucky for the eclipse then continuing on to points unknown.

Doesn't really matter, pick a home base then the morning of travel to the best weather you can find.

For example, I'm going to overnight in Greenville SC then get up early to go wherever I need to.

We are staying in Hopkinsville KY right smack dab at the location where the path of totality intersects the longest duration. I am told that it will be quite the circus. If you are trying to get a spot, better start soon.

This is a "Big Deal" since we will not have seen one in the USA this good in a hundred years.

Didn't we have one back in the 70's? I seem to recall making pinhole viewers in grade school to watch it...

The path of totality was mostly off the east coast in 1972 so we only saw a partial of varying degree depending on location. Only Central Florida and Nova Scotia was in the totality path.

"From central Florida, the path hugged the eastern coast of the US up through Virgina's Eastern Shore. This may have been the eclipse that Carly Simon was referring to in her 1972 song "You're so vain". ("You flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia - to see the total eclipse of the sun.")"
