Toyota finally stepping up?

After several years with no major change to the powerplant, toyota seems close to announcing some much needed improvements.
I spoke with a toyota rep yesterday who told me the the diesel tundra is slated to hit the showroom as early as 2017, with a Cummins powerplant. Also coming soon, by public demand, a 38 GALLON fuel tank available on all tundras.
I asked about the loss of payload due to extra fuel and he stated "they're addressing that too."
Then got to figuring, 12 more gallons is only about 100 lbs.
This is welcome news for those of us who have come to appreciate the quality of toyota. Hope it comes to pass. I drive an 08 and will look for new again in 2018. On the 10 year plan.

I would avoid the first year model and then perhaps the second based on issues or problems with the first and what steps if any were taken to correct issues or problems.

Hey. Put the unit in for service Saturday. No word yet on dollar amount but service writer was shocked at the bent slide rail. Waiting to hear estimate. We wanted to connect but was a little concerned about the size of attendance. Any problems with power or water?

No problems at all, even feeding 1400 went very well. A touch slow on several occasions. I talked to the caterer after the presidents dinner, about the tenderloins that they prepared. They had 1700 8oz filets cooked. That was 850# and there were many left over. It was an excellent dinner.

We met Dutch & Woodie at the KOA near the fairgrounds and drove in together. We were only 2 spots from where we were last year. Woodie gave up a full hookup site to be with us.

Don't know about next year, there was talk about going to Gatlinburg or somewhere in the Smokey Mtns. Maybe we will do both, it such a good time.

Looks like the 38 gallon fuel tank and integrated brake controller are included in the 2016 models.

If only they had gone ahead and committed to this eight years ago. No telling where they'd be today.

So are they gonna make it a 3/4 or 1 ton option? If not their diesel will still be too light on payload.

Sounds like a fantastic combo - the quality of Cummins and Toyota should be unbeatable................if they can build a bullet-proof transmission that will handle the torque.
