Uneasy Feeling
I don’t get that warm and fuzzy feeling when I’m flying out of the country and the airline I’m flying on is called XTRA Airways. Did they put the plane together with eXtra parts?

Cute - they started out in 1987 as Casino Express Airlines.Based in Miami and certified by the FAA to conduct Flag,Domestic and Supplemental operations and have six Boeing 737-400 and three Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Sounds like a neat little air carrier.

This upcoming trip will be our second experience with this airline. The first experience wasn't great. We left the gate one and a half hours late and we were informed the problem was the physical passenger count didn't match the passenger manifest. Return trip was better, our departure was only an hour late. As we taxied to the runway the brakes on the right side of the plane squealed quite loudly. This airline is like other discount airlines which means it's basically a passenger cattle car. Oh well, you get what you pay for.
Our flight is just 3 hours long so I'm good with it.

I grew up on Boeings and love them,but you might be surprised in today's aviation industry,as well as others,how much of the complete aircraft consist of sub- assemblies manufactured in foreign countries and simply assembled by Boeing. I'm guessing Airbus operates similarity.

Every airbus I flew on felt "rickety" with lots of rattling and noise during the flight while Boeing's felt more solidly built especially during flight into known moderate turbulence.
I will book an airline that flies Boeing over Airbust anyday.

Aside from Southwest or Alaska, you'd be hard pressed to avoid an Airbus product these days. The big three, AA, Delta, and United all have Airbus pretty well mixed in the fleets. Even booking a flight scheduled to be on a MD80, 737 or 757 etc could have an equipment swap to an Airbus. Actually Alaska recently acquired Virgin America so now they're in the Airbus business too.
I endure airline travel about 5-6 times a month. They're all the same from the bulkhead back aside from an obnoxious hydraulic pump wine/bark on the smaller Airbus.

I know Boeings are not without their faults, but it seems to me incomprehensible that you would design an airplane where you could break off the vertical stabilizer simply due to rudder deflection. (AA Flight 587, Nov. 2001, Queens, NY)
I just don't trust their structures, systems and especially their electronics.

Well said. And if you plan on travel overseas flying a foreign carrier, you can be prettry sure of getting a seat on an Airbus.
