Warren buffet

Found this today big thing about FR not doing recalls can be fined 30 million dollars. The Associated Press reported that Forest River, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, was fined $5 million because it “mishandled safety concerns.”

Elkhart, Indiana-based Forest River could face up to $30 million in fines if any other safety violations are found over the next three years.

Forest River failed to report required data on time and also delayed the issuance of recalls when problems in 1,000 of its camper trailers were found.

US Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said,

Safety is a critical shared responsibility, and when manufacturers fail to meet their responsibility, the Department will enforce the law.

More information at the Elkhart Truth.

Having been through the area on business a few times, I can tell you first hand their are some nicer places than Elkhart IN. Its not exactly what I would classify as a resort type destination.

5 million or even 30 million to Warren Buffet is pocket change. They'll figure out some way to get a write off out of it. The hilarious thing I found reading about that fine last year was the last paragraph here....Regulators Fined Warren Buffett's Forest River Over Safety Concerns - Fortune

"Forest River, however, is reportedly working with the government to fix the issues and it is working on guidelines for the RV industry to use at large."

Letting Forest River come up with guidelines for the Industry to use at large would be like letting Charles Manson rewrite the criminal code.

The involvement they have when it comes to government is fighting and providing funds to lobbyists to fight any type of RV lemon law legislation that pops up anywhere in the country. In regards to what is spent on that the fines they paid are nothing.

I don't know about over $300,000 rigs, but all the RV mfgrs. put out units that should never pass good quality assurance standards. We've had fewer problems with the new Keystone than the FR we gave up on, but it's still going back to the dealer for some issues even though we did a thorough PDI just four months ago.

I would say it is not totally one manufacture working with govt to establish guidelines for the industry. Later RJD
