Naaaa. Braggin would be talking about an expensive vacation. I'm talking about $140/ night per couple or less for say 10 nights. A cruise is a great value if you don't need expensive suites or balconies. We're addicted on the off camping season. We actually did 12 nights last Feb for much less than $100/night per couple with preplanning a year in advance. Check some out yourself, you'd be surprised. The cheapest are when kids are in school.

they are! Last Feb we couldn't sleep the night before we left. We were that excited and it was number 17! Check out some prices, you'll be surprised, look 9 months or so down the road during times when kids are in school.

Went on first cruise in febuary. I resisted for years, casue I always thought being on a cruise ship would be like being locked in a Holiday Inn with a chance of drowning. Wife finally forced me into going on one.

Took the Norweigan NCL Spirit out of Nawlins, to Belize, Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel.

BEST VACATION EVER!

8 days, 7 nights, Balcony stateroom, with an excursion at each stop, (went snorkling, had a spa day, toured Mayan ruins, and had a all-inclusive beach party at a resort). All said and done, was about $1700,

We will take another one probalby feb of next year as well.

Tim

Good price for a balcony. I know what you mean Tim. We resisted with the same thoughts and tried one in December 2002. We took #17 last Feb, have 10 nights booked this December and 9 nights next March. Book early and book while on another cruise, money savers.

The DW and I love to travel. About half of our journeys are with the RV, the other half are via air or cruise ship. We have been on 6 cruises so far, and are planning on a Hawaiian cruise in a couple of years. I keep telling my kids I ain't gonna kick the bucket until their inheritance is all gone! If you get a chance..try an Alaskan cruise...fantastic!

An Alaskan cruise is the absolute best !!! It will be more than $140/night but worth it. Don't miss the land cruise too. Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Princess all offer several days touring on land first most starting in Fairbanks and include several tours on a domed rail car. I guarantee you'll see things you've never seen before: Majestic scenery, large animals swimming, flying and walking, snow capped mountains, midnight sun, glaciers, braided rivers, gold mines, .....................

Cruising

I'm a Navy man, I worked down in the engine room and WORKED my passage to the ports we hit all over this fine world. Camping was a way to get back out into Nature and travel. In 1993, after serving 5 years on ships at the time, my wife finally talked me into taking a Bahamas cruise on Carnival cruise line. I balked, I fought, "I've spent 5 years at sea, I ain't going on no darn boat". WOW, what a world of difference between working your passage in the engine room of a Frigate or an aircraft carrier and being a cruise line passenger. WOW. We've been on 4 so far and are looking for deals in the Mediterranean area.

We were cruisers up until our trip on RC's Allure last year. Just too dog-gone many people in one place, and too many Europeans. After that trip, we bought an RV! We would like to cruise again and I am sure we will, probably out of Galveston with our fellow Texans.

Were you on the Allure Alaska cruise? We saw the same thing, and I swear that some of the "casseroles" that they had for daily lunch were staring back at me. I couldn't even translate some of the Mediterranean names on the "Casseroles", so we ate salads for lunch.

Also, there was no Lox! How do you start your day on a cruise without Lox, Bagels, Cream Cheese and coffee?

OTOH, their casino had looser Blackjack rules than Carnival.

For the few dollars more, we always opt for a fantail or bow balcony stateroom. As someone else suggested, either buy really early, or be flexible enough to leave tomorrow(those are the best deals!).

Gonna do the Panama Canal next.

Cruising is mostly about the boat... almost doesn't matter where you go. At least that's the case if you don't make past the area around each port dock area :-)

When we went to Alaska last summer, we asked what they did with all the stuff for sale at one of the terminals during the off season? We were informed it was boxed up and shipped to the Carribean... Ha!

Going on my first cruise next Feb. in the Caribbean. Leave Fort Lauderdale, sail to St. Martin's, St. Kitt's, Puerto Rico and Haiti. There are 20 of us going for my brother-in-law's 50th. Can't wait.

We've been to Couzmel twice and Costa Maya once. Loved the Mayan ruins.

We've used Carnival and Royal Carribbean. We liked Royal Caribbean a little more than Carnival.

In St Maarten you must see Maho Beach (google it) and you'll love Labadee Haiti. Have a ball.

We're stuck on Royal Caribbean and no complaints. After our next cruise in December we're Diamond Plus for more perks.

May want to check out www.cruisecritic.com for ship reviews, ratings and forum.
My wife is our family "cruise director" and she likes this site.
