Thats funny!!

And yes alot of modern midsized cars dont have fold down sests. (ie. Crown vic/lincoln/merc, impala, hyndai genesis...)

I carried a 10' stick of 3"pvc in my crapalier a couple weeks ago, almost got the trunk shut, but had to wire it up a couple inches. But I dont think I'd ever leave the doors open, but trunks fair game; )

Crown Vics I'll give you, Hyundai are still cheap cars lacking those amenities, but Impalas have had folding rear seats since 1999. Optional until 2006 and standard since.

Genisis are at least mid to upper $30k into the $40k+ range.
My '08 impala has no folding rear seat, nor any that body style I've worked on. Ltz's might, but we hardly see any of those.
Oh and some buicks also and some caddi's also no folding seats.
I have to take out interiors quite frequently to do my job
And the higher end, the less likely to have them, almost all low level/compact cars, like cobalt, focus, altima, corolla etc. do have them... more utility minded.

I've had three Impalas over the last six years, all of them have folding rear seats. A 2006 model, a 2010 and my current 2013 model. Maybe a stripped down base fleet model lacks them? I ordered the last two cars, I didn't have to check a box for it.

Don't forget, I was also a dealer tech in the not too distant past. I've fixed plenty of malfunctioning rear seat backs.

And while they're expensive, a Genesis is a cheap car. Read any review, they'll say exceptional but the lack of this or that was a disappointment. I worked on lots of expensive Cadillacs too. They're also a waste of money.

So homey just had to get that rack home today! Maybe he thought his wife would adoor him? Rim shot here................
