Weight Police Needed ???

Only in the 70's would they advertise like this!

1970 International Harvester, a camper, a mother in law suite and a boat climb a hill.

Holy cow! I love the comments regarding the engine by the way - awesomeness. Now, where is the footage of them backing in to a tight spot?

They were horses that's for sure. We used them to pull 9,000# utility trailers in rice fields in California and Arkansas. Never had engine/tranny/suspension problems. The body's would fall apart, but the drivetrain beats anything on the market today. Big time gas guzzlers.

Yeah Baby - BACK THIS!
Need Gas? NO worries, I can wrap this sucker around island 3...

Odd thing is - I had a friend back in New Mexico that would vacation at San Padre island and tow their 5er with a boat trailer WITH a dual skidoo trailer.

Braver souls than I!

I went to High School with a guy who's dad was a shot at the local HI lot, he got a new Travelall every year.
Hella stout rig, SUV before it was "cool".

I had a 1971 Travelall with tow package. It would tow anything, easily. And no concern about overheating. We sat at a few stop lights in downtown Bakersfield, CA in the middle of August, 100+ degrees, 28' trailer in tow, A/C on full max, and the engine temp gauge never moved.

8.5 MPG on level ground, with tail wind.

Does anyone remember the 60-70s when the Chev Impala/ Ford Galaxy were hooked up to 19' TT and traveled cross country? Put on some air shocks and a tranny cooler and you were ready to go.

I bought a used 68 merc Monterey with a 390CID and a three speed auto, built like a APC with serious horse power.

Never tried to pull a trailer but I do not doubt it could have done so with ease.

The "air shocks" went on a used 68 merc cougar to make it sit level.

Hooked a 20 Nomad single axle to a 72 El Dorado Cadillac and towed it to Florida from Moline, IL to go to sprint car races. 2.99 mpg at 75-80 mph. The trailer had 10 ply truck tires on it. Only made the one trip with it and traded it off when we got back. It liked to beat us to death regardless of how we loaded the trailer. That was in Feb '76, in Mar '76 we got a 76 Golden Nugget 20' with tandem axles and a 70 gal fresh water tank and a 30 gal grey and 30 gal black tank. Got fantastic gas mileage of 5-6 mpg at 60-70 mph. The Caddy was a horse with an 8.1L V8

In the late 60's and early 70's, my Dad pulled a 30' Century TT several times from Michigan to Florida using a Buick Wildcat. It had a huge 400 cu. in. engine and he never had troubles. The only problem I had with it was not being able to beat a friends Dodge Hemi in the quarter mile. I never told Dad about that one flaw or how much rubber I could burn from a hole shot.
