We have US Cellular and have been with them since sometime in the late 90's IIRC.
We've shopped around and haven't found a good reason to switch yet. We have 5 phones with unlimited talk/text but only around 2 GB of data (which we use very little of).

At the beginning of this year, I had T-Mobile and the wife was on AT&T. T-Mobile literally almost never provided service that I could send txt photos during our travels. AT&T was better, but service in the parks was not great.
This year we went to:
DFW area
Palo Duro Canyon
Yellowstone
Grand Tetons
Big Horn Canyon
Devils Tower
Custer State Park, SD
Rapid City, SD
UP in Michigan
A couple of stops in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas
Durango, CO
Valecito Reservoir, CO
Four Corners
Mesa Verde NP
Rocky Mountain NP
We now have Verizon because when we didn't have service we asked people who did what they were using. Verizon was almost always the answer.

PS If you don't work for a company that provides a cell phone discount plan, make sure you have a copy of your DD214 for the military and veteran discount.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/e...015-DE-SR-LP-T
More info:
"I’m a member of the military or a veteran. Do I qualify for a discount?
Yes, as part of our commitment to support the men and women who serve our country, we offer a 15% discount off eligible plans and features to all military personnel and veterans.
To start saving now, validate your service by going to www.verizonwireless.com/militarydiscount, for more information and to start the discount process. You'll be directed to a page where you can enter the Verizon Wireless phone number associated with your personal wireless account and follow the step-by-step instructions provided. If asked for your company name and address, enter your branch of service and your last known military address (including APO/FPO, AP/AE etc.).
If you are active military, you can provide one of the following:
•Your work or government-issued email address
•Recent paystub issued within the last 60 days
If you are a veteran, you can provide one of the following:
•Veterans Identification Card (VIC)
•Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC)
•Veterans Advantage Card (VAC)
•DD Form 214 (or any other government issued, legacy discharge document)
•Military Retiree Account Statement
Note: Don't submit your standard Military ID card (known as the Uniformed Services ID Card).

Straight Talk also has a Verizon network option, so you can have one phone on each network. A real life saver when on the road.

I recently researched this and found that Straight Talk's Terms of Use Policy prohibits tethering (as do all of the 3rd party carriers that run on Verizon's network IIRC). I had read reports however of people doing it anyway. If I am understanding you correctly, you're one of them? Any issues doing so? Are you "tricking" the system with a special setup (foxfi?)?

To clarify:
The phone (OnePlus One) on Straight Talk is a BYOP on the AT&T network. It has a built in hotspot, so no need for FoxFi. When you bring your own phone, you choose what network you want, as there are 4 different network sim cards in the starter package.
My phone (Droid Turbo) is on Verizon and I subscribe to their hotspot service.
That gives us two options on the road, with each providing wifi.

I also voted other for Rogers. $5 a day and I can use my phone how I like in the US same as at home with their Roam like Home plan.
I used to use a tracfone pay as you go until Rogers came out with roam like home

You pay $150 a month for one phone? I would hope it would drive you home for that much . . .

My work provides me with an ATT phone and a Verizon tablet. I have no idea how much they cost, but they both seem to work well enough wherever I am.
Sprint is my provider for personal phones. Right at $200.00 per month for four phone lines with unlimited text and roaming. They share 1500 minutes, but it's rare anybody makes a call that draws on those minutes. I got talked into a "free" Samsung tablet, then learned data for tablets isn't the same as data for phones. Makes no sense, but there it is. Anyway, Sprint's tablet data plan totally sucks, so I have it set to 10 meg (that's right) for $10.00 per month, and only use it at home on wifi.

Our primary phones are T-Mobile unlimited everything and our plan never throttles the data speed. We can't have limited data because I use about 20gb a month and the hubby uses about 60gb per month. ETA: Cost is $50/month per line.
We also have minutes through Verizon through our truck (Onstar). These are pay as you go phone minutes and data. We have never had to use them. But we bought them in case we reach a dead area with T-Mobile. ETA: cost is the standard Onstar cost
So far, it's been fine from Fl- Fundy National Park Canada and also from FL- Las Vegas, NV we had no dead spots all though we did get down to one bar out in rural Texas and NM.

It is $5 a day to a maximum of $50. $150 would be crazy
