I'm a controls and automation engineer, currently working on the fringes of the steel-making industry. The wife is a collector with a small local automotive finance company here in STL.

Kids are gone-ish. They seem to keep coming back from time to time. One in finishing up his MBA and the other is in the Army reserves, and going to school to be a pharmacist.

Retired 1 year ago after 46 years from management position in a chemical manufacturing plant (fertilizers). Since the plant changed hands during that time I draw 3 retirement checks plus SS and DW gets SS as well. Also now work as a consultant and trainer for the same company, I work as much or as little as I want, when I want.

I am in IT as a server admin working in the chemical logistics field.
DW as of 5:00PM today will be unemployed after being with the company for 14 years. We love unexpected budget changes.

sorry to hear that. is she handy? maybe you can get her to work around the house....LOL....lord knows when i took a temp retirement a few years ago, my wife always had me a HUGE list of things that i "could do"....nowhere on that list was work on cars, or camper mods, or any of my other hobbies.....so i opted to go back to real work....it was less stressful there!

but seriously, i wish you the best . Have had many friends laid off in last year....a stressful situation for sure.

That's funny, I work full-time (and then some) and the DW still has a huge list of things for me to do. I'd hate to see how big it'll get when I retired in like 80 years after I'm done paying for everything.

ill be honest, i am lucky enough to only have to put in about 25hrs a week these days and the rest i am a stay at home dad (by choice). even just the ONE day i stay home, my wife has grand plans of all the things i COULD get done.....never mind im chasing a 16 month old around! LOL.....needless to say i dont get much done on those days..i got better things and people to spend my time with!...

anyway...i dont think i EVER want to retire....i dont know if i can handle the job AFTER that! :-)

I maintain DW's honey-do list in my head and tell her when she adds an item to the top one drops off the bottom so she is chancing which one is on the bottom about to be dropped. (Truth is though this does not stop her or even slow her down).

Retired after 37 years at UPS with 32 years as a driver, now I work there as at Christmas as a yard shifter to pay for our summer camping trip as the wife works in the schools and is off all summer. Oh and also work at Amazon part time as a yard shifter also. So guess who always backs the camper into the site.
