Very interesting thread - I sometimes try to mentally link a members occupation with their User ID if it's not included in their signature line.

As for me - I retired May 1,2011 after 41.5 years of Federal Service, the last 31 years as a FAA Airworthiness Inspector.

Now I just check for the SS and Government pension checks to make sure they're properly deposited

My DW is a Registered Nurse, but not active. She is starting to get mail asking if she would like to attend seminars regarding her upcoming SS eligibility date and not handling that too well.

Looks like your DW has a bunch of seniority on you.

I think there was another thread buried from sometime last year about what people's screen names mean. Though now that I think about it, I don't think I ever posted there...... Dang, that to-do list is getting even longer now.

I am an Industrial Hygienist (look it up if you don't know) working for a large cabinet level Federal Agency that has all kinda of cool places to see and evaluate (E.G. National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, Etc) I used to travel more than I do now and got to scope out. 39 years federal service. To much fun to retire, and being in Denver, got lots on neat places to camp within a couple of hours.

We are officially retired. DH was in retail lumber and hardware for way too many years. I worked in libraries, mostly public, for 30+ years; the last 24 as a youth services librarian. Will be doing library materials selection as a remote employee for a major vendor starting soon. My laptop and jetpack should keep us in gasoline and groceries.

I just tell folks I'm semi-retired. That leaves me a lot of leeway.

Retired in April 2010 after 40 years in the Power Generation field. Last 20 spent as Maintenance Manager and/or Operations Manager in several Power Plants in our system. Yes, we were some of the nasty ole Coal burners. DW was housewife most of our 46 years together.

Like others I look forward to the retirement check and SS check each month.

Life is good...

I Have worked for the same Company for 35 years 33 of them full time as my first 2 years I was still in High School. Started cleaning the office and I’m now the Sr Technical operations manager Florida Division. In 1991 I relocated to Florida from Niagara Falls NY at the infancy of the Fiber optic communication boom. I spent the next 7 years cooped in a splicing trailer, funny thing is the first year or so we were in a 24’ Winnebago MH just working and sleeping in the same place. I moved into management in 1998 and on from there. Now at 52 I’m ready to finish out my days as I have been saying at 55 years old I was going to back off and do what we have talked about for years….Hit the road. DW has works for the largest grocery chain in Florida for 22 years and is in store management and is as ready as I. We hope it all works out and our health lets us do this for many years.

Radio stations for 25 years, (18 of the 25 in Christian radio) forced retirement without pay, thanks God for unemployment (11 months) back in Christian radio (sales and on air) as independent contractor and soon to be a Campus Church pastor. Good-bye weekends! DW works in accounting.

Refinery operator, somebody has to make all the gas and diesel we burn in our rigs! We ship fuel nation wide but especially up through the northeast. There is a pretty good chance alot of you have burned fuel that has come through the unit I work in.

Uncle Sam is now finally repaying the loans I gave him over the last 50 years (SS). I also work as a seasonal worker between Labor Day and Thanksgiving for a friend. Not great pay but it's totally stress free, unthinking, do your job and go home. It's 2 hours from home so I live in the trailer during the week and go home for the weekends. We call it my gas money job.

I'm retired Air Force and spent the last 15 years working as a Testing Coordinator for a community college. My DH is an architect for the Air Force and we both will be retiring this December 31.
