biken210 - speaking of becoming a "WalMart greeter" I have noticed at our local WalMart Supercenters here that the nice old man or women who once greeted you at the entrance is now longer there.

There is now a large sign at the entrance directing you to the Customer Service desk.

Perhaps another way of keeping prices always low?

This thread has been interesting. I retired in May 2011 after teaching 23 years in various grades and raising 2 daughters and 1 son. Husband still working at an oil refinery. Thank you to all the military who served or are serving now.

My wife and I are both in outside sales for one of the countries largest suppliers of HDPE (High Density Polyetheline) Pipe. The DW sells the leachate runoff systems designed for landfill gas to energy systems, and I sell it for Geothermal, gas, and watermain systems.

Working from my home office is the greatest! I occassionaly get out in the field (once or twice a year)

We both work for a university. I am a facilities coordinator, she is a budget analyst. Looking forward to full-time downtime, but that's about 20 years from now!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! To all Veterans and the men and women who serve this great country - can't thank you enough!

We LOVE Lake Gaston! Beautiful place! Haven't been in a few years but for about a decade we rented a house in the Five Forks/River Bend area for a week every summer. Not too far from the Eaton Ferry Marina.

D/W is a retired RN. I did everything from session and "pick-up" musician to aerospace flight test and telemetry engineering, from which I retired after 23 years.

I owned a TV store in the 70's, taught Electronics Technology at Idaho State University, worked on remote microwave and communications sites for several Gov't agencies, owned a Radio Shop designing systems for, and working on radios for local Law Enforcement agencies, Fire Departments, EMS , and farms and ranches.

I never wanted to go in to Aerospace, because I'd heard that they were unstable employers, laying off whenever there weren't contracts, but after I went to work for Northrop, I never worried about any of that. It took me 3 years to finally get retired, and they bonused me very well for those three years.

Do I miss it? Heck no, except for knowing what is going on in the Black World.

I love Lake Gaston too. I had a RV on a rented lot at Eaton Ferry and paid $100 a year. I guess that tells you how long ago that was.

20 years, 22 days, and 8 hours active duty in USAF. Found out I couldn't figure out which boss I really had to be nice to in civilian job. Went back to work for the USAF. I could figure out who the boss was there. Retired as Chief of ATCALS Maintenance for Air Mobility Command. Would I do it again?---Yes. Would I go back today at my age?---Not just no, "Hell NO!"

Retirement is too good to go back at my age.

And a big thank-you to their families as well, especially the kids. Its gotta be extra tough to give up you mom or dad for months or years at a time without really understanding why.
