I am just barely 53 YO... My first was a 1960 F100 223cid 6cyl. Only options were one sun visor and a heater... I mean literally. No radio, no signals, vacuum wipers and plenty of rust and dents. Bent on all 4 corners, bad rear axle, bad brakes, broken rear spring, and strpped 2nd gear(side loads of this era famous for), broken front and rear glass. Mom owed a little money and I traded that for this "truck" that my father had abandoned... Gotta learn somewhere.

[B]I do NOT miss it!!

1954 Austin Healey 100-4. Bought wrecked, "fixed" (rather than repaired). Really fun car. Ran rallies, gymkhanas, and an ice trial with the local sports car club (in western NY state) with my father on my "learner's permit"! My father's version of appropriate driving school. Fixing and repairing daily added to the learning experience. Loved that car!

My first car was a 1963 Ford Fairlane Sport Coup with a 260 c.i. engine. My first new car once I was commissioned was a 1973 mach 1 with a boss 351 c. i. engine. It could pass anything on the road, but a gas station.

Only one older so far. My first was a 47 Hudson, paid $50 for it but never could get it running. The first one I drove was a 48 Chevrolet fastback ($75). Dad, my brothers, and I somehow kept it running until I threw a rod. Did someone say you are supposed to check the oil?

1957 Plymouth Belvedere 2dr hardtop. 318 V8 w/a 4 barrel carb (Furys had progressive 2-4 barrel carbs). 3sp torqueflite pushbutton transmission, positraction rear end.

With the push button transmission, if you pressed #1 it would stay in 1st gear until you pushed one of the other buttons, if you pushed #2 button it would automatically shift to 3rd at 85MPH. or #3 would be for normal shifting.

Looked just like the 58' in the movie Christine. The only difference was the 57' had 2 headlights and the 58' had 4. The 57' was made for a 4 headlight system but they weren't legal in every state in 1956 so the used the 2 headlights.

I bought it new in 1957 for $2640. I borrowed the money from the bank and took 2-1,000 dollar bills (don't see them any more), a 500 dollar bill, a 100 dollar bill and 2-20's to the dealer. I paid the bank off in 10 months. Back then $1 per hour was the going wage, gas was .19 cents/gal. I think someone had special ordered the car and then backed out of the purchase because positraction and the 318 w/4barrel carb was not standard production. You don't see many Chrysler cars around from that era because the government made Chrysler buy steel from Japan and there was not enough carbon in it so they rapidly turned into rust buckets.

It was a beautiful car and the 57' Chev's and Fords couldn't catch it. Stupidest thing I ever did in that car (or any other car) was to go 130mph with it. Those years of Plymouth and a great suspension system, torsion rod suspension on the front and single leaf spring on the back and you didn't seem to notice how fast you were going. Back then most state speed limits were "reasonable and proper" which most of the time I wasn't.

My 1st was a 1965 Red Chevy Chevelle, 2 dr, bucket seats with "red dome light"! I always wondered about that red dome light. Paid $350 for it back in '74.

In 1972 I bought a 1964 Chevy C-10 pu. Paid $100. The transmission would jump out of 1st gear so went to junk yard and bought one for $15. Had to cut and reweld the drive shaft because the tail piece on used transmission was too long. Had lots of good times in that truck!

My 1st call at the age of 16 was a forest green 4 door 1941 chevy 4 door with a bashed-in drivers side rear fender. I thought it was the coolest car anyone could possible have as a 1st car. After owning 67 more cars, yes I have a list of all 67, I realize that perhaps several of my cars I would own in later years, like 3 corvettes, 3 65 Mustangs, a 29 Model A street rod, a 49 chevy with a corvette engine just to mention a few, might be a bit sweeter!!!!!

You were one of those... I call them. I have friends who buy and sell all the time. I have had cars almost 40 years and only had 10...and had 3 of those I one time. I never wanted to trade that much. I guess I pretty much used it up before I sold. I had a 93 W250 ext cab 4x4 LB diesel I sold in '09 for 5k...those stupid things are bringing 15k and up. Crazy
