Just realized there's one near Scranton PA, too, off I-81. Good to know. Think I'm gonna go get me some breakfast...

I will trade you all of our TN Waffle Houses for all of your taco shops.

They are all over the mid west and east. 5 in Lexington KY alone and 5 more within 5 miles. Literally every exit from Michigan to Florida has one. but why?

None up here in New England (that I've ever seen). A few Cracker Barrels though. Interesting topic. Did a road trip with 3 of my siblings and in-laws down to FL for our Dad's funeral. It was almost a running joke how many you see along side I95 all the way down once you get South of the Border. Never ate at one, but had to do a pit stop at one once for the girls.

None close enough for me to drive to.
Lots of HOP's but I tend to avoid those like a roach truck.......

FEMA uses Waffle Houses for the "Waffle House Index" to determine the severity of a natural disaster:
When disaster strikes, FEMA turns to Waffle House | Marketplace.org
Jim Gaffigan does a hilarious bit on Waffle Houses.

X2. Denny's has never shaken it's bad reputation of years ago. IHOP on the other hand is clean, changes their menu often with new items and its family oriented.
We wouldn't hesitate to go into an IHOP on a late Saturday night - not so with Denny's.
