Where to buy laptop?

The DW's laptop has given up the ghost and I will too if I don't replace it quick, I can't buy on line as we are on the road, so I need to buy in store, checked out Wallmart, any other suggestions? Sorry we are visitors to the US and don't know the best shopping tricks yet!

There are plenty of deals out there for Back to School laptop purchases. Bestbuy, Office Depot, Office Max, HH Gregg, Staples and Walmart all have something cooking for the next week or so. Most of them have an exclusive model or two. The features may be a little more or slightly less than the standard models that all the stores sell. Good Luck!!

Not sure where you are raveling in the states, but tigerdirect.com purchased Circuit City and CompUSA and they generally have great deals. Best part is the kept some of the old Circuit city and CompUSA stores as new Tigerdirect stores search here and see if there are any near you http://m.tigerdirect.com/m/http/www....vm_v=q1.2vu5A4

Also find out what the warranty/return policy is just in case you get a bad one- Sam's club does a 90 day return which worked out great when my GPS decided to go bad on me after 70 days. I was told that was also the policy on computers.
also since your on the road consider buying from a store with locations all over like the ones Charlie suggested above.

IMO, when buying a laptop, my first criteria is that it has a separate video card and does NOT share video with system memory.

2nd I stick with brands like Asus. I avoid Dell, HP and Sony.

From there, I would then check the usual stores, BB, Staples, CompUsa, etc...

If you are ready for a new laptop then by all means, check out the big stores. However, if you want to get something just to tie you over until you get back home, you can save some money by checking out Craigslist > Cities. There is a craiglist for just about every city/region in the US and you can find a used laptop for little money.
NOTE: These are in-person cash transactions so if you go through with a purchase agree to meet the seller in a public place.

Maybe by the new laptop------------

Nigel, maybe the D/W getting the new laptop you will not have to worry about turning into a ghost. Boy, she must carry a big stick!

You are going to love Montana. Getting close to returning across the big pond?

How is the 5 ver holding up? Any problems you need to shoot anybody about? I already replaced the tires. Getting ready for the 2K mile trip to PEI, will follow the Hurricane up the coast Saturday.

Have a good one!

We just made the transition to Apple. There may be an Apple store in Spokane if you are headed that way. They aren't cheap, but I doubt that I'll ever go back to Microsoft again after tasting the Apple.

Self promotion alert!! We sell Apples where I work. Unless you live in Indiana, we do not have to charge sales tax. Now back to the regularly scheduled thread...
