Who still tent camps?

I was out with the TT the last few weekends at the same CG and got to walking through the hills and woods on the hiking paths. I came across these primitive sites up in the hills in the woods, these are awesome sites for tent camping. I was thinking of doing a night or 2 of some old throwback camping in a tent. Now I was talking to a full timer this weekend and mentioned that to him and he asked why I would consider it when I have a nice TT. I told him for old time sake, now his question has me wondering. How many still tent camp while owning an RV?

I would not tent camp at any of the parks we go to with our camper. Spoiled that way.

But, we've been considering backpacking again. There are two WI SPs that my DW and I used to backpack in before the kids came along named Newport and Rock Island. Very primitive and we have to walk in bringing all supplies. In fact, we need to take two ferry rides to get to Rock Island. We miss those trips sometimes and have been thinking of adding a couple of nights at one of these.

DW keeps saying we are going to do it. But I keep thinking why? Yes we had some fun in the tent. We also had some sleepless nights as well.

Lol. These are some funny responses. I should add that there would be no kids. It would adults only.

I still tent camp quite often. I enjoy hiking and photography, so I take the truck loaded with the 4-wheeler and a tent. Many of the really good places I go have roads that would not be suitable for a TT. Tent camping is still very fun and enjoyable for me. The only drawback is grizzlies and mountain lions in the places I tent camp.

I do....as a matter of fact, about 3 months after I brought home my travel trailer, I bought a Napier Sport SUV tent for the times that bringing the trailer wasnt ideal. I love that tent! Its the sort of tent that connects to the back of the SUV so I can sleep inside the vehicle. I also bring along a cot - so I can shimmy off the tailgate and relax on my cot....I wont give up the option to camp in sites that the trailer cant go...even now, with the recent purchase of the smaller FR hard sided pop up trailer - I still forsee using my Napier tent. DH took it to Quartzsite last January...He froze his butt off even with the Buddy Heater...he swore off tent camping then....but ended up taking it for a week long fishing trip a couple months ago. LOL The tent is versatile, can be used attached or stand alone.

We use the Toy Hauler as base camp and go 3 to 4 days on the Motorcycle. The wife and I enjoy it emensely. Tenting is where we began and I still love the simplicity of it.

Now that's a cool idea using the camper as a base camp and venture off from there.
