Who still tent camps?

I was out with the TT the last few weekends at the same CG and got to walking through the hills and woods on the hiking paths. I came across these primitive sites up in the hills in the woods, these are awesome sites for tent camping. I was thinking of doing a night or 2 of some old throwback camping in a tent. Now I was talking to a full timer this weekend and mentioned that to him and he asked why I would consider it when I have a nice TT. I told him for old time sake, now his question has me wondering. How many still tent camp while owning an RV?

I would not tent camp at any of the parks we go to with our camper. Spoiled that way.

But, we've been considering backpacking again. There are two WI SPs that my DW and I used to backpack in before the kids came along named Newport and Rock Island. Very primitive and we have to walk in bringing all supplies. In fact, we need to take two ferry rides to get to Rock Island. We miss those trips sometimes and have been thinking of adding a couple of nights at one of these.

DW keeps saying we are going to do it. But I keep thinking why? Yes we had some fun in the tent. We also had some sleepless nights as well.

Lol. These are some funny responses. I should add that there would be no kids. It would adults only.

I still tent camp quite often. I enjoy hiking and photography, so I take the truck loaded with the 4-wheeler and a tent. Many of the really good places I go have roads that would not be suitable for a TT. Tent camping is still very fun and enjoyable for me. The only drawback is grizzlies and mountain lions in the places I tent camp.

I do....as a matter of fact, about 3 months after I brought home my travel trailer, I bought a Napier Sport SUV tent for the times that bringing the trailer wasnt ideal. I love that tent! Its the sort of tent that connects to the back of the SUV so I can sleep inside the vehicle. I also bring along a cot - so I can shimmy off the tailgate and relax on my cot....I wont give up the option to camp in sites that the trailer cant go...even now, with the recent purchase of the smaller FR hard sided pop up trailer - I still forsee using my Napier tent. DH took it to Quartzsite last January...He froze his butt off even with the Buddy Heater...he swore off tent camping then....but ended up taking it for a week long fishing trip a couple months ago. LOL The tent is versatile, can be used attached or stand alone.

We use the Toy Hauler as base camp and go 3 to 4 days on the Motorcycle. The wife and I enjoy it emensely. Tenting is where we began and I still love the simplicity of it.

Now that's a cool idea using the camper as a base camp and venture off from there.

Let me think about this for a moment. .....

Okay.
I've thought about it.

Nope, not gonna do it, ever again. Although we had a really nice set up - huge tent, porta potty, cots, nice kitchen area, it took us about 4 hours to set everything up and another 4 hours to take it down. Plus cleaning it all when we got home.

Now we have a roof over our heads, a nice comfy bed beneath us, a flush toilet and all the comforts of home.

I'm never going back.....

My son has only ever camped in the trailer. I think next summer we are going to do some back country camping; with just what we can carry on our backs. Part of the attraction to camping for me is getting back to nature, and partly working on my zombie appocolypse survival skills.

But seriously, there is a nice survival aspect to camping. I've been teaching my son and my nephew how to know the direction using clues from nature. It would be nice to throw a "how would you survive in the wilderness" situation at them.

We went tent camping on our honeymoon in 1960 in a pup tent. Graduated to the back of an El Camino with an airmattress and tonneau cover, then a slide in for the El Camino, a 20' single axle Nomad, tandem axle Golden Nugget, 24' Alumalite 5er with an 81 El Camino, homemade slide for the 81 Camino, 24' ???, 26' Kodiak, 33' Flagstaff 831RLSS and finally 02 Flagstaff 8528RKWS.

Would I go back to tent camping? NO WAY, TOO OLD for that, altho we really enjoyed the tent camping, but we were young and just wanted some privacy. eh,eh,eh.

Was a scout leader for 15 years. Have done my share of tent camping. If we cannot take the TT then it is a motel room.

I go every year with my dad and brother we portage down a backwoods river and spend a long weekend fishing, it is where my love of the outdoors started, good to revisit roughing it once in a while,,,,although I have wondered how much to fly my trailer in via helecopter,,,,,,

From time to time, DW & I will throw the tent, sleeping bags & pads, Coleman stove, etc. into the canoe and take off. I don't yet have a way to carry the canoe with the fiver, but I will.

No thank you.

I get enough of that crap in my job as it is.

Gimme a roof, four walls and a nice dry floor any day.

I'm done trying to warm the earth with my body heat one small square at a time....
