Writing/texting/who knows what

Site team note: The following posts have been moved to their own thread as they are extremely off-topic to the original thread, and were a hijack that weren't helpful to the OP in the least.

When using the fan be sure you have the vent open.

Because of texting...my wife...grade school teacher, is seeing more kids every year that can't hold a pen or pencil correctly and many 1st and 2nd graders don't know how to write yet, but they can type on a keyboard.

Many schools no longer teach cursive writing. Only printing.

Unbelievable!

I only print except when I have to put my signature on something. If I used cursive nobody will be able to read it, not even me after a year or so.

BTW, I can sign my name 10 times in a row and not one will be the same.

Unbelievable!

IMO (“In my opinion”, for Oaklevel [emoji3] ), cursive is pointless. It’s the kind of thing that kids/people can learn if they want, but spending the time to write it in school brings absolutely no value. Maybe spend time teaching to read it.

I don’t recall the last time I wrote in cursive. I can read it just fine, just can’t write it. Even handwriting print at all- 95% of my “writing” is via keyboard.

Signatures? Most barely resemble anything except scribble anyway.

Historical documents? Again, those who want can learn OR go ahead and teach how to read it. Or better, let parents do it. We should be involved in our kids’ education anyway.

As for the comment that kids don’t know how to use pencils- that’s entirely on the parents. My children were taught proper grip from a young age and are proficient at both. In fact, part of my daughter’s home schooling is to learn touch typing.

I’d venture to guess that more DO understand than don’t.

Cursive writing

Since this has turned into an opinion page...cursive writing should not be taught. That way , future generations will not be able to read the Constitution of the United States...yes, sarcasm. Go check out the grade school level requirements for Thomas Jefferson. Our upcoming generations are not that bright.

I don't text and these newer uses of abbreviations just do not make sense for us old guys I learned the forum abbrev a long time ago DW, DD, DH, TV, tv, etc., but this old dog has no idea about imo, u, idk, bc, and other used for texting, I have no clue....... who knows maybe someday I will get a smart phone and learn something new........... But then I would have to know someone to text to......... I think someday I will get cell service at my house, now I have to drive down the road and park in the church parking lot to use my cell phone......... kind of reminds me of Green Acres. (any one remember that show?)

Really they don't teach cursive any more ???? Wow.......

Sorry to the OP getting this thread so far off course.........

And we don't help the situation any with all of the crazy RV related abbreviations that we use here on the forum!

Your not alone here. Like when I'm signing for new auto, home refinance, etc, I even forget how to spell my name.
