Your first vehicle that you owned!

This is a photo of my first vehicle that I bought for $70. It was a Ford Prefect 1952 and I was 16 years old. The car was in bad condition with the second gear not staying engaged. The car had mechanical brakes. I had a lot of fun with this first car.

I don't have a picture of it but my first car was a 1977 Dodge Aspen, two door with a 318 V-8. I too had lots of fun with that car even though it was not the normal hot rod. All that mattered to me was that I had a V-8 and I could roost the back tires. Nothing quite like the smell of burnt rubber .

1972 Toyota Celica ST, I bought from my sister in 74. I loved that car and if I could find a decent body of one today I would have it in a heartbeat. I spent a ton of mony on it and it looked sweet in 69 Corvette medium metallic blue with slotted American Mag wheels Stebro exhaust etc.

I bought a new 1976 Chevy Vega, no AC, but had an 8-track player and it cost $6.50 to fill it up from empty. That car is how I met my wife. My friends and I were at a Pizza Hut with those brownish color lights they had back in the 70's and she was leaving and owned a Vega also. She was trying to get into my car and that's how we met. May 22nd will be 35 years ago we met and June 23rd marks our 33rd Wedding Anniversary.

My first car was a 1951 Nash Rambler convertible purchased in 1956 for $75 with a bad front suspension when I was 16. My father and I pulled the two A frames together and put a tube support between them and I drove it for 2 yrs with no problems. Took my wife on our first date in it 56 yrs ago. I still have the motor/gearbox mechanism that ran the top up & down on rails. A 57:1 worm & screw.

My first car was a 1957 Ford Fairlane convertable w the 312 police interceptor engine. Only problem as keeping rear differentials in the thing - too many burn outs.

A 1986 Ford Ranger my father had put 125k miles on. Paint would wash off and the center drag link was about to come apart. No real magic in that truck, but it did get me where I needed to go.

71 Mach 1 Mustang bright yellow with black stripes. Man it was a fun car!
The funniest comment I ever had about the car was one girlfriend asked why I had my birthday on the side of my car? I calmly replied, my birthday is March 2nd.

Man, you older cats had some fun first rides! Mine was a 72 f100-302/c4 sport custom bought for $300 and had been sitting in the garage for about 11 years when I got it in 1996. Blew a brake line a a trans cooler line within a mile of leaving with it and had to come back for it the next day. Had a "special" recipe to start it: keep starting fluid, hammer and screwdriver under hood- turn on key, open hood, smack starter with hammer, spray starting fluid in carb and cover with hand, jump solenoid with screwdriver, rev it up and slam hood and run around into cab before it does! about $50 fixed it- new starter, choke tube repair and rebuild carb. Anothe 100 for 4 new wheel cylinders and all new lines and trans cooler line. Put on some glasspacks and fat bfg tires and chrome wheels and enjoy the 8mpg while gas was $.99/gallon. Had to go to a mini truck when gas got over $1.25!

When I was 16 and a junior in high school, I inherited a 1952 black Desoto. It was like a tank and had a semi-automatic transmission that you worked using the gas pedal. Loved the gas wars back then (1963); instead of gas costing about 25 - 30 cents a gallon, you could find it for about 19 cents. The 'good ol' days' when we never had to lock our doors or carry a gun.

My first was a 1974 Pontiac LeMans that I paid $350 for!! It was no GTO but it ran almost as fast with a 350 small block, a few minor tweaks, and glass pack exhaust. I can remember sneaking out at night and having to push the car down the street before starting it in order to not wake up my parents.

an Austin A40 a few years later. I think some of the older Canadians might remember these. Both good fun for a young lad, even if you did have to hold them in second gear when accelerating hard!!!

69 Mustang. Picked this up in 1996 for a couple of grand. My dad was so mad at me. He hated it and made me get rid of it. I'm still not quite over that one. It was also the only non-Chevy I've ever owned.

Then ended up with the Monte Carlo SS
