making room to open the tailgate

Has anyone tried to turn the electric jack so that the tailgate can be opened when the truck is connected to the trailer hitch? or if the whole unit can be unbolted and spun for better clearance?

I appreciate the feedback.

Some Brands of Elec.Jacks, the motor can be turned, some Members if they Only need "1-2"" to clear the Jack drill another 5/8" hole "Downstream" in the "Ball Mount" shaft! Some Ball Mounts come with two 5/8" holes in them! Youroo!! :us-flag-waving:

I was able to turn my UF 3500's motor 180 and now have no problem dropping the tailgate.

Between this forum and some other forums, I have seen it done.

I read where it had been done as well. Sounds like you can unbolt the entire unit and rotate it. If the motor/electronic box itself can be turned that would be just as good in my opinion. I will have to look at what brand mine is at home. Wait for a dry day and see what i can get done.

Barker units allow Head rotation also! The Bolt Base pattern will NOT allow Jacks to be located in the location you desire! :crying: Youroo!! :us-flag-waving:

As a last resort, if the motor can't be turned, just take it to a welding shop and have the mounting plate cut off, rotated and re-welded. Shouldn't take but about 30 minutes start to finish.
