Roof issues

Hey I have a newer Salem with a seal issue. It has been leaking since I bought it. Forest river is refusing to fix it cause I didnít have the seals checked every 6 months. Has anyone else had this problem? It is 6 months out of warranty.

My dealer said that the roof caulking was only warrantied for 90 days, which I've heard from other owners.
They recalled a leaky spot over the bedroom, that was founded during the first 90 days. When that repair got worse, less than a year later. they refused to repair it.
So I check the caulking every 3 months and recall where it has cracks.
So far, no more leaks.
When you say Forest River refuses to fix it, did FR tell you directly or is that what the dealer said?

It is a maintenance issue on your part. The Dicor sealant is a product that needs to be bi-annually inspected and you as the owner need to apply some to any areas seen to be cracking or otherwise failing. It is a simple process. Just go on the roof and inspect, clean any suspect areas with mineral spirits and dry, then apply self leveling Dicor to the prepared area. It is a simple task that NEEDS to by done. If you are not in good enough condition to do this, then take it to a shop every spring and fall and have it done. Many times you will have no repairs to make, but occasionally you will.

The Dicor product is easy to obtain from Amazo for around $10 a tube. There is a self leveling for flat surfaces such as your roof, and there is a standard non leveling version for side walls such as around trim or windows.

This is similar to checking and adding oil to the engine in your vehicles. It is not a warranty issue.

Straight from the warranty department. Service techs at the dealership said this isn’t something that has happened in the last 6 months. I believe it’s been going on when I bought it. Had some hinges in the front bedroom that where rusted. I knew I should have trusted my gut.

I understand maintenance is in me. If I was told that they need to be checked I would had done that. Forest river said well didn’t you read the manual? Then I was told that I had to take it to a dealer to inspected. I don’t understand also why there is 3 times more sealant on the front than in the back.

So at this point, toss a towel or moving pad over a ladder and put on the rear wall and get up there and inspect for signs of cracking or delaminated Dicor. From there, you should easily see the source of leakage, and it sounds like it may be above your bathroom (EDIT: bedroom). Re-seal all suspect areas and you should be good to go. You'll need self leveling Dicor and mineral spirits as well as a large flat screwdriver and a scraper. Be careful and do not gouge the rubber substrate while removing the failed Dicor.

You do not need to remove the old dicor sealant if it is just cracked. Just clean the old sealant and apply new dicor over top. There are several videos on how to do so online.

Well I’ve seen where it has came apart. It’s on the front of the camper where the roof meets the front of metal curve. My biggest issue is that the whole front room in the ceiling and walls have black mold due to the leak and will have to be replaced.
