King Pin Lock

Was wondering how many of you used a king pin lock when:

1. Storing your unit
2. Camping/parked

The reason I ask is I have always locked my bumper pull trailer to make it harder for anyone to hook up and steal my trailers. Just this weekend my daughters friend had their brand new Grey Wolf stolen when they unhooked for a day to visit family. They had not spent a single night in it yet.

Hadn't thought about securing the 5'er but it makes sense and I have a lock on order.

they cannot seal my 5er unless they have a pullrite and I park mine behind my garage, camping is also out of the question since we camp at private parks.

1. Storing your unit: NO Stored in my unlocked barn.
2. Camping/parked: NO If someone steals it, that's what I pay insurance for.

I have one and use it if we are away from the camper for any length of time. While we also have a Pullrite, the adapter to allow it to be towed by any hitch is relatively cheap. Just a bit more than a good lock.

I use this one.

Bal King Pin Fifth Wheel Hitch Lock

I put a lock on the king pin when it's at the storage lot but never at a campground or RV park.

I lock my kingpin at home and put a heavy duty locking cable through the dual tires. I know there is no way to stop theft, but I just hope to deter it, slow it down or make them choose another trailer.

Same here - I lock it at storage and if it's parked at home and unhitched when I'm getting ready.

Never locked it while camping. I have 4 slides, an awning and water/electric/sewer normally. Someone would have to really want it to go through the effort of disconnecting to steal my camper. And, if they do... I have insurance for that.

I keep it locked in storage (when I remember) but have never locked it while out camping. Now that I think about it, I forgot to put the lock on it when I put in back in storage Monday. Guess I need to run over there this weekend and remedy that.

False!!! Your capture plate is only held on by 4 allen head set screws... It'd take 30 seconds to take them out...

I suggest locking it!

Haven't heard of anyone ever messing with anything but it's pretty cheap insurance...
