awning strap
just bought a 2014 salem villa estate.only used the awning one time and we were fixing to have 20-30 mile winds and so i was about to put the awning back up and when i put the rod in the strap and seen the strap was only holding on to 2 threads. i called ocean's rv and told them i needed someone to come out and replace this strap so i can get it up.....that did not happen, so i attached a rope onto the tube of the awning and got it up that way, now i can't get it down....what in the hard is it to put a new strap into the tube? and how do i get this awning back down again. i have the little lever released. so annoying

It sounds like you have a manual awning is that correct? If it is you can unroll it by hand,(probably 2 people) If you flip the lever to the unroll position and just pull on the arms it will unroll.

The awning strap is attached to a piece of plastic about 1/4" diameter x 2" long which slides into one of the grooves in the awning drum. You should be able to get a replacement strap at any RV dealership.

You should be able to unwind the awning without the strap. Have a person at each end of the awning (you'll both need step ladders), flip the unwind latch and carefully unwind the awning from each end. If you stop unwinding to re-position the ladders, the awning tube won't roll back up as it is latched to unwind. Once it's fully out, slide a new awning strap in.

Edit: I'm a little slow at typing so I'm adding to what Glen said.

You can also repair the strap you have by removing it and wrapping it around the little pc of plastic, super glue it and then sew or staple it to itself.
