Water Filter

I just purchased a new Roo 21ss. During my orientation the salesman instructed me to not use a water filter in the factory installed location. He said that the carbon sediment has been escaping into the water lines and clogging in the toilet causing it to malfunction. Is this true???

Thanks,
Steve

I used the filter last year without any issues. We dont drink the tap water anyway so I didnt put one in this year.

I doubt if carbon sediment from the filter is a cause of clogged pipes. Sediment does occur, but I've noticed it from the degraded anode rod in the water heater or from other debris that somehow got into the lines (probably during manufacturing).

The downside to the filter is reduced pressure, not carbon sediment in my opinion.

I took out the factory filter, as it was a flimsy design just waiting for a problem, and installed a GE Smartwater Filter. The cartridges are around $15 each and they treat chlorine taste, hard water taste, sediment. You can even go all out and get one that treats VOC's like lead, cysts, sediment, chlorine, etc. for a little more money. I made the top of the cabinet a bit heftier and installed in about 20-30 minutes. I did not notice a reduction in flow at all from my water pump.
