Fresh Water Tank when Storing RV

Hi,

Perhaps this has been discussed before...but I didn't find it in a search...

So the question is, what do you do with your fresh water tank (and hot water heater and lines, etc.) when you're not going to be using your RV for a few weeks (or more)?

I have been draining the the tank, but nothing else, and I'm concerned that the tank won't actually dry...so things will grow in it...and that things may grow in the water lines and hot water heater.

Advice appreciated!

Thanks

Dave Jordan

Simply sanitize your line and FWT with JAVEX before use.
We camp every weekend so not a problem for me.

Used, I bleach mine every 3-4 months or when winterizing. Not used I flush twice every other month and refill to 1/3 lvl (just in case).

No different than when you leave your house for a few weeks. You don't need to do anything.

Many years ago when we had a MH and city water,I kept the tanks full and always ready to go,never a problem. Now we have well water which tasts great, but has an unaceptable ammount of calcium in it.We also have a 5w, so balance comes into play. I will always keep 10 or gal in the 110 gal tank for "on the road",but use campground water whenever I can. When we get home I put 2-3 tbs bleach in the tank, then drain it down, and refill with 10 gal just before we leave.I also drain the water heater when we are home. The thing that bothers me about untreated water sitting in warm tanks for a couple weeks in legionairs desease. There cant be any algae because there is no sunlight, but the leginairs thing scares me, even if I cant spell it right!
