Water Heater

Was curious about my water heater. When I winterized it some months ago I noticed there was rv antifreeze coming out of the drain plug area.
Here are some pictures I took. Not sure why factory didn't put in another shutoff valve.

With the two valve system, you have an internal backflow preventer (aka check valve) installed in the hot water outlet (see modified pic). This keeps anti-freeze or water from flowing backwards, back into the water heater from the outlet port. However, these check valves can go bad and not seal properly...thus not completely doing their job.

Thank You for the great picture. I just thought a third valve should have been in place. Knowing now that there is a check valve kind of puts me at ease.
Just wondering if I should install a 3rd valve to eliminate any future problems or get a new check valve.

Also, those brass valves you have are crap. I've changed 2 of 3 will probably have to do the 3rd this spring. It may look closed or open, but may not be, until it falls apart on you:
