I would assume it’s more of an issue of being able to tow something with the tailgate in the way. If as you say, all four wheels are in the bed, then maybe just remove the tailgate.

It's common with all makes of trucks. The overall diameter of each tire is about 32". They are not going to provide an expensive 20" wheel for a spare.

Just use the WDH and leave bars off. I do this to pull my trailer out of the backyard because of uneven ground. I sure wouldn't use something undersized for the job.

First off before you buy something something different, verify that you are set up correctly. Dealers don't always set the wd hitches correct right out of the box.

Actually the Dodge Durango has plenty of power, I use to own one with the 5.7 liter V8. But the rest of it is not built for towing something like that.
