Thanks. Whacking them with a hammer did nothing, but then again It's possible I wasn't hitting it hard enough. I'll give that a whirl tomorrow with a bigger hammer!

For the record. I fixed it. The circuit board that controlls the starting circuit was shorting to the enclosure it was mounted it. Looks like over time some of the insulation on the wires wore down....

yeah, it's just the 1st stage of the 2 stage regulator on the generator feed at the tank. I'm going to buy the part and try fixing it myself. (away from people) it can't be that hard, channel locks...
