I've had problems with this gas strut also. Been replaced twice. Now, I just use a hardwood stick, cut to size to hold the bed up. A lot easier then removing any items on the bed before lifting....

Friend Was Correct

Sorry to say, his friend was right. I installed one and it came with a 7-pin plug and instructions for connecting to the TV. I didn't install it that way, I did connect directly to the battery.
