Got the poles separated today, but did not have to spend two hours like OC experienced. I had to use a pipe wrench at the base of the outer pole cause the base plate did not hold up to the tourque...

I tried that to no avail, now the top holes in the inner pole are oval shaped. I have nothing to lose now so I will keep at it and if I get it free I can cut the top off the inner pole and re-drill...
