Generator: SandPiper 371REBH

Is the Champion Inv Generator 2800 (peak) enough to run the AC (15btu) or do I need the 3400 (peak)?

Note: Just choosing between Champion DuelFuel 2800 or 3400.

3400w inverter one.
They now also make a 3500w inverter generator.

ps: any reason to NOT get the 3500 DualFuel; $500 less and only 20lbs more weight

Edit1: 68dB vs 59dB

You'll need to de-rate the output about 10 to 15% when on propane.

From the Champion web site...
"The Champion Power Equipment model 100264 Dual Fuel inverter generator is powered by a 192cc Champion single cylinder, 4-stroke OHV engine that produces 3200 running watts, 3500 starting watts when powered by gasoline and 2880 running watts, 3150 starting watts when powered by propane."

All reports I've read say the 3400 and the 3500 (gas models) are EXACTLY the same unit. The 3400 is de-rated for branding specs.

From the Champion web site...
"The only difference between these two units is one model has a slightly more conservative, under-rated wattage output displayed on the unit and packaging."

I'd go bigger. Bigger is always better. Just because it will run it doesn't mean it will do it well or do it for very long. I burned up a generator prematurely running things it "would" run.
