Tips for wiring in/locating batteries in 2005 Sandpiper Trailer
I would like to wire up multiple (4-6 batteries) 6-volt golf cart size batteries in a 2005 Sandpiper trailer. I am wondering what others have done, your suggestions for storing/mounting them internally or externally on/in the trailer to eliminate theft and the best means of doing so.
I am familiar with the AGM batteries and wet cell units and that they give off gas, etc. Have any of you built racks for external mounting purposes and have any of you used the AGM batteries inside and where did you place them?
I have two 235W solar panels I would like to use to charge up the batteries as I am in a park that is basically a solar community and who use generators only for emergency or a means of backup power should there be long stretches without sunlight. Since I have 470W of solar, what size solar controller would I need for the two panels and are there any detailed threads as to how to best accomplish the above?
My time is limited and I've had minimal success with the search mechanism here on the forum so I apologize for asking so much via the compound posting I just did. I do have a 200W portable Zamp suitcase system that will get me by for 4 days but am interested in building a fixed platform (probably out of treated lumber and sinking a couple of support posts) for the two panels, wiring it back into the trailer, locating the solar controller in close to the batteries and as opposed to reinventing the wheel I thought I'd pick the brains of people who have multiple batteries already mounted in a trailer of this size (28' unit) and eliminate the guesswork.
Thank you for your time and any information and insight you can provide me as I've done the same for many others my self and understand that these types of questions take precious time!
Much appreciated!
Mike
