Faulty factory sealed Sandpiper 24L 5th wheel.

Has anyone else had your RV service Center pull off rear corner mouldings to find that Forest River put putty tape on mouldings but never pulled the tape off before putting on?
Does not stick or seal to Filon skin worth a crap! Went for routine service and now WTF?
Now we are waiting on Forest River to answer on this.
Both rear corners the same on our 2007 Sandpiper 24L. I would like to know how many others are experiencing the poor construction methods we are? Click image for larger version

It is all soaked. It held this long I guess as our service tech has kept up with reseal caulking, vents etc.
If it looked like a vent cover was getting brittle with age we changed it. It was kept covered until this fall.
The two top of corners started to let water in this fall as nothing was noticed last summer when sides resealed.

No it won't be scrapped, we don't have your funds in our retirement to just get a new one. I wouldn't think of just trading it in and let some one else deal with it. Our service Center has two very good techs / owners who know their stuff and are removing entire back walls, replacing with new wood and paneling. We wondered why an aluminum framed unit is all wood in rear wall?
It will get new Filon skin, ridged insulation ( not batts that came out). All new and dry for spring.

Roof and floor are good as we caught it early so as only rear walls soaked mostly in wood backing on Filon skin so hence the delaminating sides. It looked better after heater fans dried it all. But we are having it redone with all new dry wood.
Repairs plus a full roof reseal, gas service will be $5500.00 CDN funds. Cheaper than a new or other one you will only have to fix.
We should get another 10 years out of it.
PS - The strip of mouldings across rear wall base had no putty tape??

Oh...I see now...the backing tape, the paper that covers the putty on one side was not removed, so the putty could not "flow" to seal the joint....

Every two years I get service tech to inspect all the gas, sorry as in propane appliances. Then adjust and clean if needed just to make sure all are working efficiently and safe. The other year I just check all propane vents outlets etc. For the usual before I test run them all.

Seals and New Hires

Nobody told the new hire how caulking is applied or where to seal. My competitive product was missing sealant around the rear window - whole back wall had to be replaced due to water damage - nothing fits together right the second time around (use lots of caulking to seal/hide misalignment). Thank goodness for the 2 year warranty.

Work is on going on restoring our RV. The guys at Courtenay RV Specialist join the Filon skin at corners the way it should have been done at Forest River. Take note FR and learn how an RV should be built!!
