22” Blackstone: black vs stainless steel face
Does anyone know the difference between the 22 inch Blackstone grill with the black coloured face vs the stainless steel face? I can get both at Wally-mart for about the same price, but the black one comes with a lid and legs/stand, the stainless steel one is just the grill. I assume the stainless a is higher quality or a newer version, but both are same size and 24000 BTUs. Father’s Day is coming, and we might even be able to camp by then, so I want to buy the best one for the DH ( he doesn’t know that he wants one, but he does!)

I have the Blackstone 22 inch with the stand and lid and love it. I find it very versatile.

Pretty sure you covered all the differences except propane connection options.
Typically, the one with the hood and stand is $174 but sometimes on sale. It also comes with connections for both a 20lb propane tank and the little green bottles.
The one w/o the hood and stand is usually $129 and only comes with the connection for the 20lb propane tank.
Looks like there is a 22" with just the connector for the little green bottles for $153. That seems like the worst option to me.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the 22" with the hood and stand. That's what I have.
If you're using it with a camper that has a quick connect propane port, you'll likely want something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S4GWQD7..._ZglTEb6VVJEP9
Hope that helps.

Yep! That's exactly what I did. bought that Quick Connect piece it is a world easier. As an added bonus the stand also works for my ptg Traeger smoker.

The difference is stainless steel is more expensive to make and takes higher pressures to form into the griddle shape. Just don't get the idea that stainless doesn't rust, cheaper low grade stainless will rust just as easy as mild steel, expensive high grade not so much.

Thanks for your input. Here in Canada, it is about $210usd for the black one with the lid and stand (but no 20lb hose) and $190 for the stainless one, with no accessories at all. That’s why I thought there may be a difference between the two grills, since so much more comes with the black one. We do have a 20lb converter hose that we used with our Coleman stove (we don’t use it much anymore since we upgraded our trailer last year).

We just bought a 22” stainless, but it only had the 1# bottle connector. We got the quick connect hose for the trailer; so no worries for us. If you want the 20# bottle connector you need to make sure it is included. Enjoy it!

Look closely at the description. I think the stainless one specifies a "stainless steel front panel". On the Blackstone website, the stainless model specifies a "Rolled Carbon Steel Griddle Top". This would be the same griddle as the black front models. So the difference is the appearance of the front and what goodies are added in the box.
BTW, PropaneGear.com is a good place to get the parts you need to connect to your RV if your rig has a quick disconnect setup.

Yes, I do know the difference. The black one is regular steel painted black, whereas the stainless steel one is stainless steel that is not painted.

So just the face is the difference? If the grill itself is the same then I should go for the black one with the legs and lid? Really, I’m looking for quality vs looks or accessories.

Yes the face is the only difference. The burners and valves are the same. Get the black one with the stand and cover, you'll love it.

SniperDroid, a bit of a thread hijack but hopefully CampKeri has enough info... I have the 22" and the Tailgater. Tailgater is nice in concept but even more vulnerable to wind. I love the 22" inch with stand and hood. I'm still trying to find a way to get decent heat on the Tailgater with any wind.

Thank you everyone. I will be getting the one with the lid and stand. Right now we have been using a separate grill on top of the outdoor stove, but mostly for bacon and eggs or grilled cheese. This looks like it will be more versatile. Can’t wait!

For folks having an issue with wind on Blackstone griddles, a good solution is some mill finish aluminum step flashing. Easy to bend to fit over the top edge of the griddle and hang down past the opening. Stuff is light, easily put on and off, easy to store, and cheap.
