That's the one I returned to Costco. Temps all over the place. Sometimes as much as 120 degrees off. My Rec Tec I bought to replace it keeps temps within 5 degrees.

I have a GMG Daniel Boone at home and a Davey Crocket for the road. Both are nice products and I have mother but great customer service when I’ve had things break over the years. I used the DC on a trip this weekend to smoke a brisket.

I have heard good things about those too. The GMG were next on my list. Costco carries them instead of the Traegers now.

I got one of those. I don't care for it. Can't keep it clean enough to use. It was a good idea, though.

I tried wrapping the flame deflectors in aluminum foil. That just made it hard to get enough heat to cook right.

So I went back to the pellet grill.

This is the best... the best... cooker I've ever used... put wood chips in it for flavor. This thing is amazing.

Check out some YouTube on it.

Very happy with our GMG Davy Crockett. I use a $20 folding work table from Harbor Freight to set it on.

The GMG Davy Crockett has gotten a lot of traction in this thread. Could anyone post what the smoking/cooking grill dimensions are? All I can find is the overall size of the entire grill and the fact that the cooking surface is 219 sq. inches. But is that 219 sq. inches (approx) 11" x 20" or 14.75" x 14.75" or 12" x 18" or ... or ... or ?

How many rib racks or chickens or how big of a turkey could this model handle?

Good questions. I haven't measured mine, and it's put up now, but.....I have a pizza stone that I THINK is 15X12 and it sits easily inside and on the grill.

I do 'drunk chicken' with one of those contraptions to hold the chicken upright, and it fits fine inside the GMG. It does NOT fit well inside the Rec Tec mini that I have. However, I think the Rec Tec has a wider grill area, just has a rounded top which doesn't allow taller stuff to fit well.

I have cooked 3 full racks of ribs, but the more meat, the longer it takes to cook of course.

A standard Webber kettle is all we carry and use. Set up direct for steak and burgers.... Indirect as smoker for butt, ribs, Chicken, fish or Turkey. Light weight versitile, and easy to clean. We really think we can taste a difference in meats cooked with pellet's and prefer old fashioned kingsford with naturalwood chips for smoking. Cooked a small butt low and slow for 7 hours yesterday Opended twice to add 8-10 briquetts.

I use a PBC (Pit Barrel Cooker). I have the full sized version, but I think they now make a smaller one. It's very easy to transport and it fits in the back of my Explorer with camping supplies (we just put more in the travel trailer when bringing the smoker).

It works great, very easy to use, and they have a great website and customer service in the unlikely event that you need help with something.
