Chocolate Cobbler

Chocolate cobbler - campfire dutch oven or "regular oven"

You can make it in a dutch oven or a glass pan in the regular oven. It's super simple and you basically throw the items in the pot/pan and bake.

Two parts, a batter and a topping

Batter
  • 6 TBL melted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 TBL cocoa
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
The Topping
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
Directions
  1. Melt the butter in an 8x8" pan or your dutch oven (if making inside in the oven pre-heat to 350*). Melt the butter in the pan or dutch oven you will be cooking in.
  2. mix the remaining items from the batter in a bowl.
  3. In a separate container mix the sugar and cocoa from the topping
  4. Heat the water for the topping to boiling
  5. Remove the pan or dutch oven with the melted butter and pour the batter mix from step 2 over the melted butter. DO NOT STIR OR MIX, just pour it and leave it alone.
  6. Pour the dry cocoa and sugar mix from step over the batter/butter in the pan or dutch oven. Again DO NOT STIR OR MIX, just pour around evenly and leave it alone.
  7. Pour the boiling water over the top of everything and again DO NOT STIR OR MIX.
  8. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes (or use dutch oven with lit coals) and allow the cobbler to cool until it is cool enough to eat, but still nice and warm. Top with ice cream!!!!
It sounds harder than it is, and after you have made it one time, you really understand how easy it is to make. This stuff is to just plain awesome.

I looked and unfortunately I don't have a photo of some we have made. I think no one slows down enough when it 's ready to even think about taking a photograph!!!!!

We have done similar but a “turtle” version using a choc cake mix with caramel and pecans in bottom of dutch oven with dry cake mix over that and pour melted butter on top of that - do not stir - put lid on tightly over fire till it shows steaming - cook to desired consistency and serve over homemade vanilla ice cream !

We make Woofems. You use 3/8 inch dowel 4 feet long and the an 1 1/4 inch dowel three inches long. Drill a hole into the fatter dowel to fit the thinner dowel and glue them together. Let dry well. Spray Pam or similar cooking spray on the fatter dowel end, but don’t use enough that it drips. Using plain regular size canned biscuits (NOT flaky kind) and wrap around the dowel. Toast over the coals until baked. You will need to keep stretching the dough as it cooks. Remove from dowel and fill with pudding or pie filling of choice. Top with spray canned whipped cream. They are yummy!
