I had all the stuff with us last trip to finally try the pizza and we had no fire rings plus it was way to hot. I am going to try them at home in our portable fire pit and then hope to make some this fall while camping. We only have one pie iron so I'm watching for a good price to pick up a couple more.

I agree, the cast iron ones are the way to go...

We call them hobo pies. We make pizza ones. Bread buttered sauce an the fixings you like. I like making ones with canned cherry pie filling and for a treat put a chunk of herseys chocolate bar in it

Ohhhhh man, did you ever hit a sweet spot with that question. We've always called them mountain pies and picking a favorite recipe is like picking your favorite movie. Mine is usually a pizza pie with plenty of mozarella, pepperoni, mushrooms and green peppers squeezed into the iron. Be careful with the little buggers, though. I branded myself by accident about twenty years ago and had part of the Tonka brand name visible on my thigh for a while. It's funny now....wasn't so funny then.

I've never had them burn. I roll out the dough thin and check it quite often. Don't put it on the hottest part of the fire either.

If you use raw dough you probably have to cook just the dough first, then add the filling and cook it again. That's just a guess. We always use bread and it tastes great to me.

Nope.....I put everything in at the same time - raw Pillsbury dough and all.
