Where do you put your charcoal grill when cooking?

I have a Weber Smokey joe 14” charcoal grill I use when camping. Does anyone use a dedicated table to put it on while cooking? So far Ive used the campgrounds concrete picnic tables or if there isn’t one then it ends up on the ground. I really want to find a small sturdy table that can take the heat. Any recommendations?

I use a folding metal table just for grilling.

We used ours for 20 years. Always on the ground.

I haven't used mine in years but when we did, I had this table.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-U...hoCSoYQAvD_BwE

The top comes off and roles up and the legs collapse together. The whole thing fits into a bag slightly smaller than a regular camping chair bag.

Wherever is convenient. A lot of our parks have aluminum tables, so I use one end of that. I also have a couple small aluminum folding tables and I'll use one of those at times.

However, now that I use the Rocket Stove pretty much all the time, it sits on the ground as it's tall enough that it doesn't need a table.

If towing the car trailer, then I use it for a stand.

I just put mine on the ground. I try to keep it off the grass though. The legs are short and it generates enough heat to kill the grass.

I have 3 of these and use every year all season for the last 3 years with no issues- very compact and easy to travel. 2 of the smaller 20 inch ones and one larger one.

Charcoal Grill

I have a small table top charcoal grill (there are only 2 of us) I put a piece of wood underneath it to protect the park picnic table.

I use two small folding steps from Harbor freight. Also handy to get in and out of truck bed. Also use for foot stool and next to chair to hold things.

I put my Cobb Cooker on whatever table is in the campsite. If anyone complains I pick it up and put it on my plastic table. The Cobb never gets hot on the outside or bottom

Weber has at table

Weber has a table that the smokey joe fits on. There are clamps on the table that secure the legs, it also has hooks for your tools and space to set stuff on. I ordered mine from Lowe's and picked it up at the store. It comes apart quickly for easy transport.

Get a silicone baking sheet and set the grill on the sheet anywhere you want. That said, I betcha if you get an infrared temp sensing gun and shoot it under the working grill, the picnic table will be nowhere near hot enough to do damage.

The problem is the 3 large vent holes on the bottom. A hot piece of coal falls out and you've just damaged the table.

BUT - You can put a pie pan under it and catch the coals. Then the pie pan can store inside the Smokey Joe. Did this for 20 years.

Big Green Egg MiniMax here. We use the picnic table. I've done some long cooks and never had a scorching problem. No fear of hot coals falling out either.

I guess you can put your charcoal grill wherever it works for you, but don't be like the fools who put it on a plastic picnic table!

Thanks for all the replies so far! It’s interesting to see what everyone does with their charcoal grill. I really like to be organized when camping, so I have a place for most everything but the grill. So many great ideas! I really like the idea of an aluminum stool, seems sturdy, heat/weather resistant, and gets the grill off the ground.

Word of warning for fur buddies. Last time camped, burger grease fell out of grill and onto pea gravel. Didn’t think much of it at the time. Next day we had the dog at the vet getting xrays done. Goofball ate a good bit of gravel. All “worked out” well luckily. Lesson learned for us though.

I ended up purchasing a heavy duty alum step stool from amazon. The 14” Smokey joe fits ok. Could be a little deeper for perfect fit. The stool is VERY sturdy. MaxWorks 80773 Foldable Aluminum Platform & Step Stool-350 lbs. Maximum Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077Y7VRNY..._sfbHDbZP6XWE0

The grill was sliding around on the metal of the stool. DH will come up with a permanent solution but for now I’m using some reusable tape I had for the camper under the legs of the grill. The tape is very sticky and holds the grill perfectly.
Wellbuy traceless washable adhesive tape, Reusable Gel nano tape Multifunction clear double-sided removable tape for Paste photos and posters, fix carpet mats, Paste items etc(9.85 FT/3M) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PMWP494..._2hbHDbVT93Z55

Next camping trip is Suwannee roots festival in Oct so will report back then.
