The dealership (Tropical RV in Ft Pierce, FL) I am purchasing my TT from sells the Equalizer 4-Point Sway & Dist pkg with shank for $449 + $14 for the Hitch Ball but dont know about shipping and installed for $634 -
For my install I am gonna need the upgraded shank due to needing a 5" drop - was told he would let me trade the shank plus $30 or $40 depending on the drop I need.

Since I am purchasing the TT from them I am debating on just letting them install it and be done for the peace of mind that it is correct and if there is ever anything that goes wrong with the hitch I can bring it back to them without hassles.

BTW Here is the Disclaimer on the shipping for RVW which I suspect the hitch will be a Heavy Item.:
Shipping is FREE on orders over $124.99
Orders under $124.99, shipping is as low as $9.99*
Excludes Freight Items, Special Order Items, or Heavy Items
Lower 48 US States only

Ditto on RV Wholesalers. I purchased my first Equalizer from them with the free shipping. IMHO the Equalizer hitch is not all that difficult to install. I purchased my second Equalizer hitch from them when I picked up my Rockwood I purchased from them. I doubt you will find a used Equalizer for the price you can get a new one with free shipping from RVW.

Good luck on your search!

make sure they are selling the real Equal-i-zer. a lot of people and dealers call any WDH, an "equalizer".

Yes, I have seen those posted too. This one was, I saw a picture of it. I would really have been mad to drive down and it be one of the cheaper models. Looks like I am going to order a new one. I have some time left before april.

sherdep,

Just because the dealer installs it doesn't automatically mean it will be done 100% correctly. Once you get the trailer home you will probably find yourself doing some fine tuning after you get the trailer loaded up for camping. The trailer is supposed to be at camping weight before the hitch is installed, but that never happens when the dealer installs it. I also had the dealer install and did the adjustments myself later.

Thanks for the heads up - that has already crossed my mind - am debating on just buying the hitch and driving to a parking lot to install and then drive the two hours home - just hope I have the right drop cause I will need the diffrent reciever that comes with the hitch cause it doesnt have enough drop

Check out Equalizer's website. www.equalizerhitch.com. The instruction book is there - and the installation of the hitch is not all that difficult, IMO. The first thing to know is the hitch height on the TT - the difference in the trailer hitch height and your TV will drive the shank you need. I think my TT hitch height was around 14" on our 2011 2304. Look for the 'store' link in the upper right & then 'specialty adjustment shank'. You will find an assortment of shanks & you'll probably find what you need.

Thanks Charlie - already one step ahead
Already watched the video on the install and it is very straight forward - Already measured the 2011 2306 that was there at the dealer and it just happened to have the 14" tire with the double step upgrade so the tongue was 20" - I just need to unload some junk that is in the back of the truck to make sure it is at the right height and then measure it (me and the sales guy measured it to see what I needed) - if not mistaken I need like a 5" or 5.5" drop - the dealer already said he would trade out the one with the kit for the one I need for like an extra $40.

Here is my Dilema - I am just debating on whether to just Install my self for $449 + $14 for the Hitch Ball + $40 for the drop piece or Let them install it for $634 + $14 for the Hitch Ball + $40 for the drop piece.

I do not have the socket to tighten the hitch ball but if I can talk them into installing the Hitch ball and torqueing it for free I know I can do the install - the only thing I would need to make sure I bring was a tape measure cause I do not carry one of those but I have everything else.

I installed my own, but I have to tell you that that socket cost 75 bucks and you will need a BIG A....ss...d 200 Ft-Pound Torque wrench which I bought on sale at Sears for 80 bucks to properly torque that ball.

Because you will need a THIN WALL socket (normal walls won't fit in the forging hole) that socket is a "must have."

Your call, but if the dealer only wants a 200 for a dealer install, make sure you get "in writing" that he will frequently check that ball for proper torque after the sale. (It will need to be re-torqued after your first trip).

I never had to tighten it again but it did move bit after my first trip. You will still need to carry a torque wrench for the hitch sway bar nuts and the wheel lug nuts (I still use my BA one); but you can get away with the smaller torque wrench.

wonders if I should just get the socket - already have a torque wrench so no worries there - with the cost of the socket and the drop hitch would basicly make up the diffrence in the cost to have them install it versus's buying it and installing it myself - I would love to make sure they would check all the bolts but since they are an hour and a half away it would be way easier for me to just take care of it and not have half a day wasted on tightening bolts I can do myself and cost me an hour of my time.
Thanks for the heads up cause I wasnt thinking about the socket needing to be a thin walled one.
