Blue Tooth Towing Scale
What are your thoughts on this?
Curt 51701 BetterWeigh Mobile Bluetooth Towing Scale. Claims it does everything the CAT Scale does? Interesting. Has anyone purchased one? Planning on purchasing one?

It seems to have good reviews at etrailer. Spotty reviews on Amazon. And it's currently on sale.

I think there was a thread on this a while ago...
I understand how it works, but I don't see how the results it calculates can be any better than a "rough estimate". At best.

This is the Haul Gauge in its new form. Curt bought them out. The specs say it has a 5% accuracy. So, it may be a good rough guess. I tried the Haul Gauge early on and could never get it calibrated. It was very touchy. Sent it back.

I recently bought one on sale for about $65. I used it yesterday for the first time. An amazing little device. Numbers seem very close to actual scale weights. Appears to be a good purchase and great value.

How hard do you need to accelerate for it to guess the weight of the trailer? Does the weight change with different acceleration rates?

You have to go through the process twice from 0 to 15 mph. Once with a light throttle and one with a mid throttle. I did it just on our neighborhood residential street.

5% accuracy does not seem too good. Is it more like a 5% error ratio instead? Just curious!

It probably means “accurate to within 5%”.
Still 5% of 6000 is 300. A 300 lb error is potentially troublesome.

So do you think a truck scale is going to be 100% accurate?

I don't see it as being troublesome at 5% off. Until you get to the tens of thousands of pounds. But that is just me.
I am curious to see someone take one to the CAT scales though.

I wonder how well it works with my WK2 with quadra-lift air suspension. Guessing I need to disable the air suspension to get the tongue weight.

Watch the video at the site I linked. They address mods to suspensions.

No, but 99% or greater would be good. 95% is poor.

Yes. Well, 99.8% anyway
Those scales are certified and have to be tested and calibrated regularly. Any scale that is "legal for trade" must be accurate. Apparently the tolerance is 40lbs per 10 tons.
40lbs is 0.2% of 20,000lbs, so apparently 0.2% is good enough for government work.
Here is the NIST document for scale certification. The tolerance for truck scales can be found on page 2.28, item T.2.7.2 (hint - it's 0.2%)
