Positive: Honda EU3000is 4 years and going strong

We purchased our EU3000is a bit over 4 years ago and at the time I was a bit unsure of the $2300.00 price tag but I love that genny. We have only used it for one boondocking trip in 09, 2 in 2010 and it was started once last april for abt an hour. So in total it now has maybe 40 hours on it. I always keep it full of COOP 87 octane gas as there is no ethanol in it and I use Stabil as well. So basically the gas that is in it today is over 2 years old and still smells new. As we are going out for our last mini trip of the next weekend I dragged the Honda out yesterday, turned the fuel on and choked it. I turned the key and it may have turned over 4 times and was running, 10 sec choke off and it ran like a champ. My BIL was there so we did a SPL test and with the genny putting out 25 amps it showed 58db at 13 feet and in eco mode was 47db with no load. He had just purchased a new 2800 watt RVPro genny "quiet inverter" and we could hear it running over the Honda and it was 30 feet away. When I first hooked up to the trailer I got the good old E2 error so I made a cheater plug and put it in one of the 20 amp outlets and that cured the ground error. So on to the load test. Turned the air on and the genny never even grunted, so what the heck fired up the microwave and it easily runs the A/C and mircowave together with a load showing on the EMS of a steady 25 amps. Man I love this generator and I will now say I really did get what I paid for and then some IMO.

It only needs one thing and that is a remote start which I ordered today. Then I can have my cake and eat it too.

There is the endless debate about two 2000s versus one 3000 BUT I will say that I've run across the 3000 numerous times while boondocking. It is exceptionally quiet; unbelievable really. A very nice unit; undoubtedly the nicest genny I've ever personally witnessed.

How do you handle the weight? I couldn't lift one into the bed of the truck by myself. Just curious.

I use my JD 2320 with the pallet forks on the loader and lift it in the bed that way now. much easier having little Johnny help than looking for an able bodied person to help and Johnny always wants to help out.

I love my 3000 Honda I have had it over 9 years used it on the Houseboat. It is heavy so I just leave it in the bed of the truck and if I have to use it I get the truck as close to the power cord as I can and plug it in. The Honda sits on a 3/4 inch rubber mat to keep it from vibrating and making any noise. Had to replace the battery twice in 9 years. Oil change every 40-50 hours using Mobil 1. I do use Marina gas no ethanol.

I had two Honda 2000i's and sold them to buy a Honda 3000 Handi. The only reason I did was even though the 2000's were quiet, putting 2 of them together raised the db level. Then there's the maintenance(what little there is) on 2 vs. 1 and fueling and little stuff like that.We boondock a couple of times a year and I can lift the Handi into the truck bed by myself.

I'm guessing the 2000 will run everything but the AC? 3000 if you want AC?

I think that's a pretty accurate statement. I have the 2000 Yammy and I am unable to run the AC but looks like the 3000 will do it fine.

Yes. The microwave makes it grunt but it will do it. I turn the "eco" off when I'm going to use the microwave so that the initial startup is smoother. Don't expect to run anything else with the microwave. Make sure the electric water heater is off.

I used an eu3000is with our 2005 Flagstaff FW with a 1350 AC. The 3K pulled the AC and actually just about anything else I wanted to run. I ran the AC, some lights and even the TV and Directv box. I agree with acadianbob about the microwave...I simply nudged the AC thermostat to insure the compressor would not kick in while the microwave was running and I never had a problem. I loved the Honda 3K. I just traded it off for 2 of the eu2000's because we moved up to the Sandpiper with a 15K AC. The eu3000is definitely will not pull the 15K AC. Good luck!

What the guys said above is true. The only time the overload tripped on our 3000 was when we had the A/C and TV running and Shirley turned on the microwave.
